It you can steal it for a thousand or less, the swim platform and trailer might pay themselves off, and then you have a cool backyard BBQ bar!

If he paid you 7K to take it, you would never, ever be anything less than 10k underwater by the time it was operational!
So, other than wanting to learn fiberglass or have a neverending project, I can't see how this has value for anything more than decoration.

Yea, definitely not in this market, where there are countless examples of fully operational rigs going for $40-70k. You'll spend that in a heartbeat on that mess, and when you are done you'll be way upside down. Trust me, I've done it, except the hull I started with was in great shape, and I've done a re-rig, with my own labor.
The purchase price of a powerboat is really only a portion of the overall cost of ownership. If money is tight, stay away from a big high-horsepower twin of any vintage, and enjoy boating with something more manageable. You can obviously afford more boat used than new, but not as much as you'd think. (BOAT = Break Out Another $10K)
