Rick, you should be good in that range. I had gotten the impression of more power from one of the posts. What is the peak rpm range on those mills? If your peak power is around 5500, you'll likely want to end up with 27 or 28's. I haven't opened mine up yet, (and may never be able to hold it all they way open...) but I can tell from the engine telemetry and my prediction calcs that going 92 required about 830 hp per side. Your hull is heavier, but I'm lugging around blowers and intercoolers, extra fuel, extension boxes, drivelines, remote tailstocks, etc, so weight prob ends up close.
My calcs show that with the 25's you will likely need to spin 5700 rpm, and 625 hp at crank to reach 80. If you get 27's I think you could get to 86 mph@ 5700, 725 hp. If you can't spin that high, 28's, maybe 29's. they are still heafty mills for being N/A and @ 725hp I'm thinking Rick is being a tad conservative... all in all I'm looking forward to some fine fast boating this summer!!! |
tcelano... what you running for power? gimme info... we need info!! lmao

Well Friday afernoon I threw the boat in the water for a couple of short passes just to the seat the rings and shake it down. One water temp gauge and the oil temp gauges seem to be acting up , I am sure just wiring issues as they worked before I tore it down . Running my old 17X 25 four blades and the 3 inches of spacers gets up on plane betwen 2,500 and 3,000 rpm without allot of effort . My first impression with the notch it that it runs with a little more bow in the air attitude and reacts much quicker to trim . The one blast I attempted saw 4,700 rpm and 73 mph in dead calm water for only a few seconds ( still breaking in motors ) . I know props are wrong and my engine guy figures we are light on timing . The carbs need to be adjusted now that it is wet . I think there is at least 10 mile in this set up once we spend more that the 15 minutes I have spent so far .

Yesterday in Toronto it was 38 degrees celsious so we put the boat in and went for ride to the Toronto harbour and then to a cool water access restaraunt in Port Credit called Snug Harbour . Here is a shot of a buddy of mine and me leaving the restaraunt.

Normally I would lunch at Park Lawn , but Tuesday I launched at Lake Front Promenade in Port Credit . I don't think you should have issues getting into that harbour as long as you stay tight to the wall on the east side . There were some pretty big boats including a rather large Sail boat there that day .Its a great place to go and have a refreshment and hang out . Friday will probably be the last day I run lake O till September as I will probably take the boat up to my cottage on lake Simcoe till labour day . Where you normally boat.
Rick G. |
That was always the problem. Hugging the east wall going in is not really fun, especially if another boat is going the other way. It gets pretty tight in there when we are 60LOA. I boat on Lake Erie in Crystal Beach. My boss keeps his boat at Ontario Place Marina. I used to take clients of his out for booze cruise harbour tours all summer long, and the occasional trip to Port Credit or Niagara on the Lake.

Hey Perlmudder I forgot to ask if you saw us coming into the Toronto last Tuesday. Man that was the best day of the summer so far.
Rick G. |
No I didn't. Unfortunately I was only up there for a few minutes till I had to get back to work. The storm last night sure churned up the inner harbour though.
|
Great thread.
|
Did you ever take out the spacers ?
|
Onig , never got that far. Boat runs great just too many other things going on . I retired this so I hope to time next year. Will post updates as they
happen. Rick G |
just read your tread! nice work!
10 years ago already ! |
Rick whatever happened to the Magnum?
|
Hi Scippy , I still have the magnum . Life got in the way . I retired this year so I
will have time to start it this spring . In the mean time I am doing a resto of a 1970’s Challenger 21 . Need a bigger boat for the cottage. The Donzi sweet 16 is a bit small these days. . Cheers RG |
