I get many may not have had issues, but if you run no stats on a Great Lake In May I would check, if you have circulating pumps, and stats you will for sure be ok because the heat will be there...
Another thing is I had other issues it looks like with lifter to bore tight, thought it would be ok but looks like that's the actual cause, I am working with Johnson lifter to figure that out. |

Pushrods are ok .135 wall helped I'm sure, I will check call for sure but so far ok..
Just got off phone with AFR, they are going to cover damaged if indeed my head was faulty, I made my measurements and I will send them the head for them to also. I would not hesitate in a second to use AFR again. Very responsive to this issue class act! Also Johnson and scorpion still working with me |
What does Johnson Lifter have to do with the lifter bore clearance?? That is 100% machine shop problem because they should have been bored to the lifters and you should have engine A lifters as well as Engine B lifters...
Are you doing the repair in this thread or do we get a repower #3 thread? |

Are you doing the repair in this thread or do we get a repower #3 thread? Because I was on a make and pay cash as I go budget I did not have the lifters when blocks were done, my machinist never had issues with clearance on the blocks so I went on, a month later I got Lifters and saw close clearances and questioned it, was told it was ok. That's where miscommunication happened... Johnson lifter was not aware that I was a Great Lakes cold water boater with bypasses, so the fact hmthey wanna help me out feels really good because they don't have to. |
Im not sure how ya'll build engines up there. But down here we measure the actual lifter then hone the lifter bore for the correct clearance.
|
I know Dan and others are not Bob fans at this point but one thing I will say is during this process he has been helping me and following up with vendors and the vendors chief engineers as putting me in contact with them for me to talk to, so I don't want all the drama attached with Bob and others attached here because he and afr, Johnson lifter, and scorpion have been very good to me on this deal.
Let's try to keep this on track for learning what to do and not to do in this engine world.... Apparently I failed and will learn, I learned a ton more this week. |
I run a 160* stat with 1/8 holes drilled in it because my intake has no bypass. I've never had an over heat or anything outta normal. Water coming out of the through hulls is hot but not scalding. Erie waters.
Edit* I'm not running the same hp or caliber of engine either. |
