Without digging, I believe the number is 60-65hp loss and XRs were 35ish
|
Imco transom assembly is thicker than a Merc Hp, lots of guys running them on big HP boats, I'll be running them on my Tiger...
|
Compare it to a #6 gimbal ring and let me know about that. While it is a good piece and a great upgrade let's compare the 2.
|
the cost is the equalizer, for the cost of one 6 and transom assembly he could have a reliable pkg and be on the water. Not to mention the test time, props, transmissions or crash boxes, re rigging etc. Then look at the cost to rebuild 6's, regardless of how strong they are they need to be rebuild and then on top of all of that the parasitic drag of running a wet 6 compared to an scx is astronomical. So you/he can sit around and keep saving (he said cost was an issue) or go boating. doesn't matter to me, used 6 or brand new scx... I know where I spent my money.

ARNESON. Since you have Bravo's on it now, just bolt the Arnesons on and go. Oh yea you will pick up 5-10 mph with same power.

Out of curiosity, whats the ball park price for arnesons bolt on to bravo replacement, Is it really just bolt on?

Nice thing about SCXs is you could easily swap back to bravos when you sell. |

Do NOT waste your money on boxes and XRs! Your better off running what you have for a summer or sitting out a summer while you save up for the proper drive.
Since you need transom assemblys the BEST bang for the buck is the Arneson ASD7 bravo conversion. Its really a no brainer, and a great value. Comes with Drives Extension boxes Transmissions (housed inside box) New hydraulic steering New trim ram cylinders Etc. Next choice ssmV. The #5 is a great drive and the used price is reasonable. Can't go wrong with a #6, but if wet sump your not gaining much over the #5. Resale value will be the best of all options but the Arenson would be all NEW parts for about the same money not needing any rebuilds for ten times the length of time a used set of drives would need. SCX is not economical when buying all new parts. By the time you add new transom assemblies, boxes, steering, trim, etc the cost is MORE then an arneson with less performance. Don't get me wrong great product for the guy with a newer xr boat that only needs scx drive, helmet, fluid resovoir. Recap.... Arneson SsmV SsmVI SCX |
