You make a valid point. But still, you just lost 50% of your support as soon as the metal stops.

Just FYI, I think this thread has been great with minimal BS. The banter, discussion, opinions, experience and differences of opinion is what makes forums great. Just my .02

Not sure why you bought a new trailer. Your old one looks technically acceptable.

Those are called YardArms, and they are designed for it; 4 of them can support 40,000 lbs.

Years ago, OSO Steve and I used a pair of them (just two, somewhat at the CoG) to pick the entire (unrigged) OSO Gladiator up; and winch another trailer under it. That was exciting; we should have taken some video.

Simple answer, aluminum material properties are predictable, tested, and well documented. Wood on the other hand is not. What might look like a good piece of wood might have a knot in the middle and fail after carrying 2 lbs!!!

And no I'm not talking about that wood!!! lol

Never done anything like that before and the yard arms were older and weren`t working so perfectly (one got stuck and would not go up or down at one point)
I was $hitting my pants the entire time. Very nerve racking.

Grand Sports center let me borrow them to redo the trailer.
