Cafe Racer, Flat Deck, Mistress
How are these models similar and different? I'm curious of different ride qualities, speeds, weight, hull differences
|
I can't speak for the cafe or the mistress ride. The ride of the flat deck is awesome. The differences are the length, deck, dash, cuddy, cockpit, and weight. Speed all comes down to the engine package. All three have great things to offer. It comes down to personal preference.
|
The Flatdeck and Cafe racer are deeper cockpits than the mistress as well.
|
None of the are known to be speed demons. So if its speed your looking for, forget all three hulls! LOL.. Ride quality will be very good on all three boats. There are a couple really nice flat decks for sale now including Sonic700's boat.
|
The Mistress and the Cafe are virtually the same bottoms. The Flatdeck is a little stretched. They built 4 Cafe's with Notched transom. They all ride great. Predictable, not fast and they take some horsepower to get moving. Classic that will never go out of style. Some great deals out there on some sweet looking boats. Tougher and tougher to find Cash Buyers on older machines, you figure the newest straight bottom mistress and flatdeck is 30 years old.
|
I wish there were more on the market right now; maybe come spring some stuff will start to show up..
|
there is quite a bit on the market right now. they are just being bought up

I've had all three Flatdeck very heavy. Plows thru big water Slow with stock 482's trs Like a tank!
Cafe is smaller & nimbler, good ocean boat The cockpit is deeper. I think sleeker lines. 420's trs My mistress was a Kevlar boat, light fast with stock power. It had 330's originally trs. I repowered it with more hp. Very fast then I have had a total of 9 Cigaretts since the late 70's Plus many other makes. |
They have been selling for the price of motors, gimbals, drives and tabs. Some Great deals have been had, but we all know the cost of updating....it can get stupid.

There are 2 38 Flatdecks for sale in the same building in the Chicago area. Doesn't get any more convenient to see 2 clean ones that don't need 30k put into them. They are already done

The answer is 40k max.. So the Flatdeck in Ri is on the top of my short list. Theres a 90 Cafe in Nj w whipples on it that ive inquired about. I'm not into the mistress @ PBC.. I'm not opposed to carbs, beggers cant be choosers at that budget.. Just looking for something that doesnt need to go inder the knife immediatly.. I feel like I've got my finger on the pulse of whats advertized.. No need to act hastely tho, spring is still a ways away.. |

A warm fuzzy feeling.. Lol.. Really tho; ideally a clean fuel injected Cafe, Flatdeck or Mistress; w reasonable hours on the power. Next question everybody will ask is, "how much do you want to spend"?

That's one of those boats.....like my Mistress was, once you sell it, you'll be missing it like hell. Impossible to duplicate, a classic machine, not many left that are tastefully done and updated. you need a passion for offshore boats to get into one of these flatdecks and mistresses. Kind of wish I kept mine, even if I just used it once in a while. For what I put into it, blood , sweat and tears. Perfect riding balanced boat. Oh and I put a ton of $$$$$$$$$$$$ into it too.....lol

Thanks for the info. Now I can look out for something or know of someone selling that is in your ballpark. Not saying mine or Marks flat deck are the best out there but we have thrown a bunch of money and time into ours. I would at least come to Chicago and look at both then you have a idea of what to look for.

I have a Cafe Brochure somewhere that says 9600 dry. That is obviously without swim platform, strainers, external steering, superchargers (if applicable), anchors, lines, liquor, etc.......
I think you'd be hard pressed to put one on a scale that wasn't 10k even with the fuel tanks drained. |

The difference between Fiberglass & Carbon & kevlar is like night and day. You would think you were in a totally different boat. They ride and handle totally different. |
38 Flatdeck is advertised at 9500lb. I talked to Craig Barrie about that and he said yeah that was the weight then they put the deck on it. LOL. My guess is 12000 dry

I think icdedppl weighed his flatdeck. Iron headed supercharged big blocks, stand off boxes, speedmasters, fully rigged, air conditoner, fuel and gear, on a box tube steel triple axle trailer with drive guard, and was around 15-16k lbs with the trailer.
My c channel steel myco without drive guard, weighs around 2700lbs. Id imagine a full box tube steel with drive guard has to be in the area of 3500lbs. Heavy boats ! |
|
where is the tongue weight? Is it 15780 plus 1500 tongue weight.

I've heard reciently that in a strait bottom TG, Kevlar vs Fiberglass layup is +/- 1000lbs..
Although I did read the Kevlar was only used in the engine compartment which I doubt but you know how the internet is.. |
I loved yours... that was the nicest Mistress and tastefully done, mine is nice but to me yours was flawless...

My Mistress was 12,500 on trailer with zero fuel, aluminum heads, N/A engines, TRS boat. Myco says my trailer is 2000 lbs I never weighed just trailer...
|
My flatdeck weighed in at 14,700 on an aluminum trailer with about 60 gallons of fuel. Trailer weight on title was 1650 so I figure she weighs around 12,750; a total wave crusher...Takes a ton of power to push them but love those classic lines.
|
^^^ makes sense. My steel trailer is probably about a 1000lbs heavier thus the 15, 700 weight.
