I'm not 100% sure. Mechanic (my son in law, Barrett Custom marine) just said, carbs are done. dumping huge amounts of fuel into motors. He gave me two options, down and dirty "get 'em working" (but for who knows how long) or send them out for full rebuilds (3 weeks turn around). I opted to do it right even though that gets very close to our drive date for LOTO

I actually asked the same thing. When the response was “oh, ok baller” I knew right away it was a dumb question lol. The price difference is pretty significant. New Holleys are 15-1700 each. Rebuilds are $350ish. Then there’s the concern the new ones would need to be tuned still

I know all too well how new ones have to be tuned. I bought had a new 950 and dynod it on my motor and it picked up 20 hp and the tune was good, so I bought another new 950 carb to put on the other motor. The motor sounded and ran fine till I ran hard for too long and it went lean. I pulled the motor and rebuilt it and dynod it both of the new 950 carbs I had. The 2nd carb was so much leaner we had to change air bleeds to get it correct. So, the moral of the story is even thought both are the exact carb and new they are different and have to be tuned to the motor.

.So... What goes "done" on carbs? I get that shafts turn and valves.... valve. But what "wears out" on a carb? Serous question....
Thanks. Brad.
