Hi Dan , I do not run boxes with my 5 drives . I spoke to Phil Lipscutz regarding the size of the notch and drive height . He was very helpful and great to talk to . I did the notch to avoid boxes . Going from the 3’s to the 5’s only pushed the motors forward about an inch . Mine are still plug ins .
I found it planes easier . I can’t disagree if it is not broken don’t fix it . If you the six drive route without boxes you may want to consider it . Always a good idea to chat with Phil he is a wealth of cigarette info . If you do decide to go that route feel free to reach. It’s a pain in ass job but not difficult . Cheers Rick G .

6's on boxes will be driveline just like your setup now. You will most likely be able to avoid:
1. Moving engines
2. Modifying engine mounts
3. Doing any glass work on the transom

Medium Grey bilge: will show leaks, but you don't have to worry about getting any stains out.
Black transom: won't show the scum line and soot, a bit easier to keep/appear clean without getting into every single nook and cranny each time.
Have Yankey make you some vents.
