Our Cafe Racer had no notch, our two Top Guns had notches. I'll take the notch all day. Ride quality is better I found - less porpoise, more efficient with notch. Of course the Cafe was a bravo boat and the guns were both SSM boats so CJ was different too.

This is a similar effect you get with extension boxes??

after going and back and forth on the idea, I figured that IF there was going to be a time, this would be it. So after taking measurements from the Apache next it, we have a notched transom. The new center stringer was almost perfectly made for it.
looks awesome Nick! that apache used to be all black and called Shaka...

Hi Nick nice work . I put a notch in my 1985 Kevlar flat deck when put on the ssm no 5 drives on . How big is your notch. I reached out to Phil Lip**** and he advised me to go with a 10 inch notch as opposed to what ever the standard Cig notch was. The boat handles great and jumps up on plane with the 5 drives . If you are going with sixes I imagine the improvements will be even better. Keep up the great work. Rick G .

Thanks Rick! Your thread inspired me a lot about adding the notch. I think you and I may be the only ones who have done it. I mimicked the 41 Apache so I believe the notch was 11” give or take.

Well, can’t believe how well this crew did in about a months time. Hatch done in primer, transom with notch done in primer, bilge prepped and painted. Off to get some holes drilled for drives!
