Hey Craig223
In pic. 33 thats my 28 Cig & thats my arm. Taken in Point Pleasant race 1976. I still have that Keller speedo an mount thats on the dash. Talk about old school anyone remember Mr Keller ? If you wanted one of his speedos you had to call him an make up a good story why you needed it, you were lucky if you got one. L.S. |

Just thought I would point out that Cigarette has been selling T-Shirts and clothing since WAY before Skip Braver. I'm sure most of Cigarette critics already knew that though. :D

Tank,
Thanks for the reminders. But I didn't think that either one was really that sexy. The "Do I get a ride" and "Blonde Look" ads really always defined Cigarette for me. I'm sure you know what I mean. Best to everyone on the "Left" coast, Rob.. |

I wouldn't mind getting a poster of it. |
Re: Cigarette the Legend Thread - The Original Documents
Curt,
You're too kind. Key West is out for us this year but we are doing the Miami Boat Show Run for sure And I'm sure that we'll bring more "Crew" along too. But do me a favor and Drop the Sticks once for me on the way down, I'll be riding on your shoulder. Tank, I've got several Shots that I did with Christina, various renditions of the "Blonde" ad. I think that I may have even sent one to you. At any rate Jerry Wyszatcki of Avatar worked with us on them and we did a whole series of Black and White with her and I but they are framed and I'm not able to scan them. And the statute of limitations of girlfriends would not allow me to post them anyway. Best, Rob.. |

I've personally never experienced that sort of reaction as the result of owning a Cig. But.. One of my neighbors wanted to dump a plate of spaghetti over my head at a restaurant last summer :D Kurt |

Yep and there are 2 more. It was a two page ad that was for the Platinum Series Top Guns. I have it and will post it when I can get to it. |

Re: Cigarette the Legend Thread - The Original Documents
Somebody help me with this. When I watch the 6MB video (over and over -thanks GLH) -when the guy driving says "I got to get me one of those" -the throttles look like they are completely pulled back. Is this justs some TV magic?
|
Re: Cigarette the Legend Thread - The Original Documents
My guess is, and this is only a guess.
Is that for the speaking parts the guy had to pull back for a moment on the throttles to be heard. My boat did not have the windscreen option. (Wasn't available yet) and with the flaps down it would have been nigh impossible to hear anything at a 40 mph. Phil told me at the time that he would get the boat up and running and then switch places with the actor. Phil then crouched below in the Cabin out of Camera sight. He also mentioned that they were only cruising at around 40-50 mph most of the time. and that it took 6 cameras to catch all the action including one on a boom hanging over the bridge. It is a cool commercial and the Pres. of LS owners club told me that it is second in all time response next to a previous one where the theme was doing doughnuts I think in a parking lot. (Don't quote me on that) at any rate I am proud of the fact that a boat I designed was picked from all the others but other than that I'll be the first to say that I had nothing to do with it but lend them the boat and anyone else could have done that. Best, Rob.. |

im redoing a 1990 rev with triple hawks and am tryin to get some idea and info about the boat and engines. Thanks |
Re: Cigarette the Legend Thread - The Original Documents
Thanks for the trip down memory lane...I have accumulated a lot of the same memorabilia over the years but you go back more into the seventies than I did.
Could you please provide me with some info? One of the images you have posted shows a magazine article reviewing (3) three Cigarettes, a 31 Bullet, a 35 Cafe Racer and a 38 Top Gun on the same page. I believe it is in the 'Apache image' section. I currently own the 38 Top Gun on the bottom of the page. I know I was the original Top Gun factory demo boat in 1987 and owned by Jeff Friedman, who bought Cigarette from Don Aronow. Nice to see it in print. What magazine and issue did this article appear in? I'd like to try and find a clean copy of that magazine for my collection. Thanks, orig tg demo |

Re: Cigarette the Legend Thread - The Original Documents
Thanks for the prompt reply...!!! I'll try and find the magazine.
Just a brief update on the boat for those who might be interested: It was still in original condition when I bought it in Jan 1998 with 195 very pampered hours on it. Over the course of several years I replaced the Hawk 6000's (540's) with Mel Riggs custom built 572's and all the best goodies: Callies crank, Carillo rods, J&E pistons, CMI exhaust, Dart heads & intakes, Crane roller rockers, Crane/Mercury Racing cam, Holley 1150 Dominator carb. Rebuilt both drives - SSM III's. Paint still all original and is beautiful, especially the airbrushed hawk logo. New padded hatch cushion with Cig logo. Repainted old competition dash to all white with new white Gaffrig gauges and yellow bezels. Just a tasteful update to a nice classic. |
