yes, it was at my shop a week ago. Kid that owned it hit a channel marker and sank it. Brought boat back up and surprisingly not much damage just poked about a one square foot hole in the bottom. He brought it by just to get my opinion of repairing it, a friend of mine is doing the repair for him i got no time right now. The boat is called Thumper and was a big deal when we were kids, the name is hand painted in western style lettering down the side. i will get some pics

How come they didn't actually use Kaama drives on the Kaama edition Scarabs? Seems funny that Scarab had the Kaama edition but Formula seems to be by far the most common boat actually using the drives.

That's me alright. I have a slip at Erie Basin but kept it out of the water and in their parking lot these past couple weeks. I'm thinking about dry docking it next summer rather than get a slip and wanted to practice one man launching.

There's a few Python's on this forum, but it's the same hull as a Pantera, Superboat, Excalibur, P&D, etc.

What's the lettering on the side at the rear say?

Because it was the same deck as Betty Cooks KAAMA race boat it was started before the drive even came out. Larry gave Wellcraft that deck because he changed the 38 race deck to match the 46 and 43 race decks like your boat has the newer style deck. The new deck was also wider in the cockpit the original deck was very narrow in the cockpit it was tight with a 3 man bolster.

And Larry wanted all the decks to match

Any idea why the drives are so common on the Formulas ? The drives seemed pretty rare even on later Scarabs. You'd think the production Scarabs would have used them more given the relationship

Yes but betty was a Formula Dealer in those days and there bottoms worked the best with the drive system they had a lot of rocker in their bottoms.
