I found a picture that I thought I had lost, so I am sharing it with you.
This is Blonde II driven by Roger Hanks to victory during the 1971 Deauville Trophy at the average speed of 54.3mph.
The weather in the Deauville Race was curiously alternating, calm in odd years and rough in even years.
The black and white picture shows Blonde II fuelling up on the eve of the race. The boat in the middle is Tim Powell's 31 Bertram 'American Moppie'. It will finish second, 3 minutes behind the Texan. The boat closest to the tanker is 'Hot Bovril', a 34' Souter(designed by Don Shead) and driven by Dave Bassett. It finished 4th.
Phil.

It would like to know the true about the possible existence of a 36' Blonde I in 1971.
Crouse on its Searace speaks that before the Miami-Nassau race of October 1971 a Blonde gone destroyed during the transport in an incident in the freeway and Hanks raced with the Blonde II that he used in the races in Europe that year.
But I have not never seen one photo of Blonde or Blonde I.

I will have to check the book for the origin of the picture. It is possible that it doesn't correspond to the race as we used to have one recap of all the European races. That was all. However, the 1971 CTC was held in hurricane force wind conditions and the sea doesn't appear too rough on this picture.
As for Blonde I, maybe John Crouse has it in his archives.
Phil.
