Rob,

My boat was built by Tony from a 36 Cig mould. Did he have more than one 36 Cig mould? Mine was done in the late 80's.

Fantastic - a mix of footage by the look of it from Poole/Cowes and maybe Hamble too. If only it had the original soundtrack!

I agree with you Nigel, a soundtrack would give this film extra dimension. Anyway, I think we owe a big thank you to Graham Stevens, not only for recording this but also sharing it with us.

Phil: You have out done yourself with the video, I am very proud to have been a part of that era in Offshore, I hate to say it but Dry Martini really looks great, had to have been one of the prettiest boats of its time. wish we had video of some of the welcoming cerimonies after the win`s ( prize givings ) anyway, thank you for restoring the past, great memories for me, it`s like it was yesterday, keep up the good work, remember I want to see what Deauville looks like today, maybe I`ll try and visit one day. thanks, your friend 7XCHAMP

Default Cigarettes on film

Well now,if you want more cigarettes on film there are shots
in 71 (force 8 gale),72,73,75,78 on home movie together with professional films of 70,71,72,73,and 74 due to be put on the
Boatmad site.Also 61,62,63,64,65,66,68,69 professional films
waiting to be aired.Hopefully somebody out there in the U.S.
will instigate some 60`s and 70`s footage of U.S. racing other than `Run Sunward`.I know some exists because I`ve seen it,but in those days film transfer to video did not exist and the films went back to Betty Cook.`Golden Gate Gamble`with Kudu,Slap Shot,Dante`s Inferno,Popeye,Copper Kettle,Blonde,Bounty Hunter,Aeromarine,Popeye etc and `To Conquer the Sea` with Fino,Black Tornado,Hustler,Red Vengence,Windjammer.

Thanks Richie, but I cannot take any credit for this one.
I did find the video on Boatmad and I just couldn't resist sharing it with you guys.
For someone like me who was only spectating at the time this footage brought back loads of memories so I can only guess how it makes you feel.

I will be going back to Deauville at the end of May and I'll bring back some pictures for you.
Do you remember the hotel you stayed in, by any chance?

All the best to you Richie.

Graham,

You have whetted our appetite with such an interresting list of films.
Do you know if the last to titles you mentioned 'Golden Gate Gamble' and 'To conquer the Sea' will be put on Boatmad?

I know of one professional documentary made for the French TV and broadcast in 1975, it covered the 1973 Dauphin d'Or and the 1974 Deauville Trophy. I have been trying to source it but I cannot even remember the title and it is proving extremely difficult. Also, this was before video recorders were available to the public. Shame.

On the picture below, the guy who filmed it (on the left with the camera) asked the mechanics of Miss Embassy to fit the proppellers. At this point in the week end, the race will soon be postponed due to very bad weather conditions.

On the left, in the background, the white building ( a pub) is doing a roaring trade with most crews waiting for news from the organisers. Also, on a more personal matter, the kid circled on the picture is...me.

Phil.

PS, are you Graham Stevens?
