Someone has brought up it is tough to work on when the engines are that tight, who makes an affordable header for SBC that fits on 30-1/2" (31") centers, that will still make hp? I am thinking of the Gils, Stainless Marine, Eddie marine cast type headers, whose would fit?
The Magnum my father owned was on 32" centers and we had BBC. Affordable headers (less than $3,000+ each) were non-existent. CMI's did not fit, bought two sets and returned them.

oK guys,...here's an update.
I've purchased new Merc trim tabs (280s), Merc Zero effort Contols, Livorsi Gauges, and a couple of low hr 97' Bravo 1's. No gimbals yet...still lookin'..
I have stripped the hull COMPLETLY inside and out, did a full evaluation of the hull/stringers(inspectable)and removed both pods. The entire boat, liner, and cabin insert will be re gel-coated in white, with some imron graphics (still in design phase) on the outside. (my "paint guy" paints Penske's Rigs here in Phoenix and we can use his 54' booth for the paint).
The cockpit will be LCLeod bolsters up front and a row of 3, in a traditional bench at the rear, with a DivinanyCell engine hatch w/intigrated head rests.
Cabin HAS been re-vamped...(no more furr).. the 2 cabinets have been re-configiured to accept a 26" FS, and AV set up. I have opened up the cabin ALOT! Of course new fabrics inside and out.
I have kept all the teak wood, it's from good to great conditon depending on the component. Some will be reused at various locations to keep it a lil ol skool....
Engines......Hmmmmm I'm really thinking the new Merc 383 Mag. The price is great, turn key,EFI-SmartCraft, good H/P...should be nice to the Bravo's...I was gonna build up a couple of nasty DART 406's....l but like the EFI...
I will post some pics soon...

This is my new Mirage with bone stock trs 330hp 454's, drives center to center are 33-1/4". I wanted to buy a Magnum but this deal was just a few miles from my house and to good to pass up. It's a fresh water boat all its life here on Lake St Clair in a hoist. I plan to leave it stock, all I have done is removel of the the old name, a good clean up and oil change. The fun fur in the cabin stll looks good so it stays for now. It even came with a trailer. It being a few years newer than my last Mirage their are a few updates but it still has that great ride, and will still runs 65-mph all day long. Last month my computer crashed and I lost all my info, I had a Mirage site that showed the old factory and many of the boats, dose any one have the address for this site ?

To run 75mph to 80+ you will need 400 to 450 hp mercs don't have it. A good cylinder head set up with a single plane high rise (vic jr.) and a 750 cfm holley, and some decent cam and there you go. Fuel isn't that bad on the small blocks and good parts can make them very reliable. with the mercs maybe 68mph. can you live with that. It's up to you.

I have a 26' bandit with twin 383ci small blocks. Used revolution marines exhaust 950.00 a side works great 73 on the gps with roller cams, dart heads, 750 dp's, rpm air gap intakes and 24 pitch hydromotive quad iv's on alpha drives.

Boostedscarab , I don't have a 'real' Mirage you guys talking here , just want to throw my 0.02 cents here . Since you've decided on twin small blocks I'd suggest to get the Bravo X
with 1.65 gears to have room to play with bigger props .
I have a 1990 Mirage 257 with 377's w/smartcrafts , Bravo X drives 1.65 ratio, spinnig B1 26 P blades [ tuned to true 26 P] at 5000 rpm .. My boat is only 24' if you minus the built in swimstep . Your boat is a true 29 and prolly a brick, so it will need the 1.65 ratio if you want to get on plane quickly. I wonder what your boat weighs at the scales ? Mine weighs around 6800 lbs without trailer .
