I have a 1990 Mirage 257 with 377's w/smartcrafts , Bravo X drives 1.65 ratio, spinnig B1 26 P blades [ tuned to true 26 P] at 5000 rpm .. My boat is only 24' if you minus the built in swimstep . Your boat is a true 29 and prolly a brick, so it will need the 1.65 ratio if you want to get on plane quickly. I wonder what your boat weighs at the scales ? Mine weighs around 6800 lbs without trailer .

According to my Mirage brochure the 29's weight is 5200 lbs.

Question

H2O , twin BB with TRS's must weigh close to 2500 lbs .
Your hull with all the rigging weighs 3300 . What's
the layup like on these older Mirages , some kevlar ?

No kevlar, just good old polyester resin and glass cloth. Remember these old girls don't have sinks, refrigerators, and the extras most boats have today. I guess that's way there still around 30 years later. Make it simple, but make it FAST,& Last,, at least to the speeds of the 70's.

If this boat was originally a blue hull with a blue Eagle tri-axle,then later painted red with multiple colored taped stripes,I have this boat in my shop. I have gutted it completely, put a new transon in it,cut bravo openings, and it now has a white hull and ared sheer. Kick-ass small blocks are being built and should be ready to put in this year.I have a ton of pictures to post soon and would invite all and any backfeed on this really cool boat!

That is my old Mirage, I painted her sides red with the stripes. This Mirage's first owner was Bob Johnson who also owned Eagle trailer at the time. I believe he raced her in the ABBA P-class in the late 70's. He had her untill the mid 80's, and then sold her to a guy in Port Huron Michigan. I bought her in the spring of 1988, by then the deck was already repainted white. I ran her that year with the faded blue gel side's, and just a good clean up. Over the winter I did a rebuild on the engines and a mild cam change, and also cleaned up the bilge & rigging. Ran her in 1989 in APBA A-class that year in calm water, with full interior and had FUN. Sold her around 1995 for a 38' Scarab and always regretted that. Sold the Scarab this year and went back to a 29' Mirage and hope this one run's as good. I talked to John [jet] and even bought from him the old trs wing plates just to have a pice of that great boat. Post some pic's, love to see her be reborn again.
