Without a doubt, my all-time favorite "offshore" race boat....a work of art....everything changed that day.

I never saw that boat in person - the artwork alone as you imply looks pretty impressive. And to think too that the pods within the cockpit must have inspired a feeling of safety..........

My best Welcome on-board to you,Mikiedreb!
Also you don't have pics of the 41' but however you have posted some interesting photo.

Black Tornado....I appreciate your hospitality !!!!! Thank-you. I have been lurking for quite a while, enjoying all the posts. I'm amazed at your recollection of details from the past. I have trouble remembering what I had for dinner last night!! I spent a number of years wrenching and racing offshore here in California in the mid 80's through the early 90's. Unfortunately, most of my time was spent building and fixing rather than taking photos. Please keep all the past history alive.

Mike

PS.....nothing beats the sounds of a pair of Lambo's at full clip. Ciao !!!!

Black Tornado 04-21-2007 05:11 PM

mikiedreb, you are one of the old guards on OSO.
Only now I put my eyes on your join date.
You was a driver? Can you speak about your experience(class,boat,results...)?
Marco

PS about the engines my hart it's for the old MerC V8,but for the tech the Lambo are thousands years ahead!

Black Tornado...I spent my time as a navagator....another way of saying "mechanic". Most of our races were with the local west coast association POPBRA and MBRA, then run by Bob Nordskog. We started off grass-roots level racing with a converted 24' Specta Daycruiser "Portia"...big-block Mercruiser powered. Nothing like ocean racing in a little lake boat !!! High-points champs in 1986. Moved up to a 30' Larry Smith Scarab P50 "Warcry"....twin small-block Chevys w/Arneson drives. Next up was a 25' Warlock cat w/twin Merc O/B,s, also called "Warcry. We ran a number of OPT races along with the POPBRA circuit races.

The final ride was a 38' Active Cat which we completely rebuilt and had canopies installed. That project took a year and 1/2. It was the final "Warcry" boat. Twin Merc 750 EFI's with #5 speedmasters.

In all, a dozen or so wins, one high points shampionship, a lot of hard work and many great friends.

Not a little thing.
I would like to see a photo of the Active canopied. I like the name "Warcry".

Not trying to steal anyone´s thunder here - Marco I think this is the boat Mike is referring to. Sure was a good looking boat. Mike - do you have some more pictures? Would love to see them!
