Don't forget Don Stolls 27 Sport " Boss Lady"....Small blocks.. I was in it at 80 mph.... My Sport ran 55 with the wind behind me & low on fuel. Those Volvo Drives were like a boat anchor.

Hello Steve(LuckyStrike),
I know what you mean about the stock Volvos being slow.
Mine had the Shafts from Roger/Gary boats to run the Merc Clever props and Rogers Trim set up,, helped a lot.

Don Stolls' Sport was a clean pretty White Magnum sport. a real sleeper if you were just looking at it.
I got a custom pair of Volvo Speedo lower units from Don back then, Wally Harper and the Guys from MI made 4-5 pairs of them supposely. Was a interesting set of lowers. smaller in size then the Volvo Factory units.
Thank you
Jim

I also raced my 27 Magnum sport in the 1st bay race & he lapped me twice. Mine was called " Commotion "

I think he owns my old 27 sport today.

I was in Brick/Toms River today, saw a couple 28' Cigarette(s) sitting on trailers at East Dover Marina just deteriorating from being left out in the weather for years. That is depressing.

I am glad that "Wild Turkey" is still around. I also remember the year that the Sanger Alley Cat entered a bay race and had the field covered until something broke, that was the beginning of the Cat era in the Bay Races, but then again my memory is not as good as some of you "old-timers' - Mr. Berk.

I am sure there are lots of Wild Turkey and Barnegat Bay race stories from the 70's and 80's that could be told.... I always find them interesting.

It's only been in the water a few times in the past 6-8 years. A combination of mechanical problems and his health have kept the boat in storage. The good news is that Frank has battled back and is recovering, and has pulled the boat out of storage. He plans on having is brought down the shore this week to have a little work done and he's hoping to have it in the water in a few weeks. As soon as I figure out how to post pics I'll put a few up of the boat in it's current state taken only a few days ago. After spending a couple of hours talking with him about his race days in the Turkey, the White Night, and Instant Air, he is very anxious to get it back out on the water.

Do you know what hullnumber he has on the 35?

Love these boats and so thankful these classic championship winners survived the huge hurricane.
