I'll keep you in mind, but plan in using them with new power.

Not correct !!! We are trying to get a real open ocean run from Sunny Isles Beach (Haulover Inlet) to the cement ship at Bimini, with a short dog leg and then back to Sunny Isles.

The dog leg will make it a 100 mile race.

Things are moving forward....slowly but still moving.

Default Transmissions?

OK - let the fun begin.

Picking up a set of 454's with 470 hp. 535 lbs/ft...

Do I keep keep the old v-drives, grease the heck out of'em and make 1 engine reverse run...or just bite the bullet and step up for a set of VF drives??

You out there lurking BROWNIE? any thoughts (besides getting head examined)?

Had one in 80's.. Really great boat.
Mine had 2 440's called Harvey Crane (grew up with) , he had a Cigarette at the time..He advised "Art leave the marine cams in there!" Worked on heads, valves, etc etc. Donzi had one with two Hollman Moody 427's they were testing..My boat was swinging 16x16's at 4700 top, they said I was doing much better than theirs..
Loved that boat! She was a dream offshore, BUT fuel burn was a tad high!! Found bronze props were a no no after dropping a blade..,Donzi said tip flex was over 1" ! ni bral or ss only..
Currently reworking a 233 Formula 1964 boat kept in fw on sticks most of its life..Added holding tank/fw tank/ lightened wherever possible. Has 2 little/teeny 3.0 Mercrtuisers.. But I expect burn to be minimal..
Good Luck on your great boat! Art Krause My email is [email protected]

Art---what speed were you getting @ 4700----was your transmission 1:1 or did you have a reduction?

Also---what was your cruising rpm/speed/gph?

Smile 28 sportsman..

Had a chest cracked, all great, back aboard..
My Sportsman with the 440,s..not sure on ratio..At the time Donzi had one with 2 Hm 427,s that they said ' Art we are not as fast as your boat, we are swinging 15-15,s you have 16-16,s @ 4700 you are faster than us"
That hull offshore is a great ride..Yes she will come out but the return is soft and quite dry most times..A really great hull design.
Currently building a 36' barge with a knuckle boom crane, to install piling. A real comedown from the Donzi!!!
The barge has 2 Penta,s so may be the quickest barge in Bluffton Sc ha ha ha .

Default Restored 28 Sportsman?

Does anyone have pictures of the completed Donzi 28 sportsman? This winter, I’m staring on a complete restoration on my 67, 28.
