Don Aronow Memorial Race
#61
Who from the Midwest will be going to the Don Aronow gathering and race 6/20 in Sunny Isles...I know there are costs involved,$1,200 for gas,$1,000 if you are going to race plus food and lodging. You are probably looking at $2-3,000 but look what you get ...be part of the potential largest gathering of old school Magnums, seeing there are a lot of them in Florida that will be there plus hopefully ones from the Midwest. Also a chance to meet all of your Magnum buddies plus drivers and crews who ran these great boats.
Can we see a show of hands of Magnum diehards who are going ???????

I've spoken with Carl and Jeanne Moesly, Dave Craig and Jon Culver..They are all coming barring a crisis or medical problems..Jon wasn't an ocean racer, but he has very long racing roots with Mercury, even before OPC started.

Jon Culver was a legend in his own back in the day. He ruled the JJ class of OPC for a few years there. I was just a poor J class racer and always watched those JJ guys blow out of sight in the mid 60's era.
For those new racers of this era.....here is a shot of Mel Riggs changing the prop on a Ron Jones tunnel cat in '70 and Odell Lewis with the first turbine powered offshore boat in the mid 60's. Would you like to be the first to tell them about all the "New" ideas in offshore today.

I sure hope Mel will be down for this. We have the pleasure of seeing the Riggs family on a regular basis and they are the nicest, most down to earth people you will ever want to know.
Just having a shot of the weeds, sitting back, drinking a few beers listening to Mel talk about the good old days is the best!!! My wife Kathy, also enjoys going up there on the weekends while the boys work on the motors. They grill out and Kathy spends her time talking with Shirley and Mindy and sometime Mel (if he is done beating up on me!!!). This family has huge hearts and we are so lucky to have be-friended them all!!
