Hats off.
I love everything about this. The right boat to save. Garage not big enough....no problem, a little cold.......no problem, no a frame engine hoist...... no problem, paint booth too short.....no problem, need to soak 16' of rub rail.....no problem.
Beautiful work, great vision. Best part will be taking it out the first time with the whole family. Enjoy....you earned it. |

Yes, this is a truly impressive restoration to a beautiful boat. Having watched my father rebuild a 1971 Magnum 27 Sport, I can full appreciate how much time effort and money something like this demands. I look forward to seeing some pictures of the boat in the water.....

Hi Jeff, fixed your Donzi yet? I keep promising Ian to get some pic's of the Magnum up here......watch this space. It's coming on really well but I think it's a tall order for this summer! Hopefully see you at Cowes!

That Magnum had better be ready! If not not, we'll just have to settle for a ride in the Apache....... Here's some footage of your Dad's old boat @4:33 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFvXBINLInc Tell the ol' chap to put down the Blackberry and get cracking. With any luck it will be as nice as this guy's Bertram. Jeff |

From the OLD MAN himself - without the aid of his Blackberry.:riding: |
Took a break from varnishing and installed some of the deck hardware. Intake vents, Flush mount cleats, stern light, eahaust tips, step pads and finished the windshield installation.

----I am one of several Detroit area guys that knew about and saw your Baron before you bought it. So,,,I can say that you have performed a near miracle with some degree of authority! With that said, being a car guy as well as a boater, I would call your Baron a restomod rather than a restoration due to all the beautiful modifications you have done. I really wish the boat was still in this area as I would love to see it in person. One of my best friends growing up had a new Baron with twin fords and I spent many, many hours in that boat over several summers. Unfortunatly, he treated his badly, but it was my introduction to big deep Vs. Barons are special!!!......Bill S

I just read this thread and my admiration for your skills and the quality of your work is beyond words.
A truly magnificent effort, I can't wait to see and hear the video of the maiden voyage ! |
Awesome!
Awesome boat. All I got to say, looks great. Quick question on your step pads. Are they chrome plated, polished aluminum, anodized ?
Thanks, jeff |

Its been awhile since I've updated my progress. The outdrives have been dismantled cleaned painted and reassembled. All the internals looked like new so very little had to be done. All the needle bearings and seals were replaced along with the gimbal bearings and trim limit switches. New hydraulic lines throughout. Everything works great and the trim switches have been linked together so you can operated them separately or together with a common switch.
The entire bottom was stripped of all paint and any hairline cracks or blisters were repaired. It took a couple full days of sanding and grinding but it turned out great. It was finished off with four coats of Interlux VC Performance Epoxy and now looks like a brand new boat. The next big move will be getting it back on the trailer. I'm hoping to get the engine started once I can get it out of the garage and put the hose to it. http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/1...5191738840.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/1...1140740586.jpg http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/4...1140730811.jpg http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7...1140851554.jpg |

She really is looking beautiful! How do your arms feel after all of that bottom work? I'm guessing maybe a 48" shirt sleeve will fit you right now?

getting closer
I just finished the floor tonight! Its almost to nice to walk on. All the seams were caulked with Boatlife Lifecalk. I went through 4 rolls of painters tape to mask off the seams. The interior is painted white and all the stereo equipment is installed. The interior should be done this weekend. I'm just waiting for the rear seat to be finished. I'll post more pictures when its out in the daylight

Wow! :drool1:

WOW is right, that boat was so far ahead of it's time, timeless lines that are still copied today (like a Rybovich or Merritt) and the job you did bringing her back has been just something special to watch - enjoy & use her well!

Absolutely gorgeous!
