Mannnn!!...the wonderful finished detail goes way back to the care you took in framing it all out.....Masterful results!!

Hard to believe this is the same boat that sat in the Blue Lagoon boat graveyard here on Lake St Clair. A++++ :ernaehrung004:
|
----I was just thinking the same thing, Mark. Goes to show you that tenacity generally triumphs. Just makes me wish it was 1969 again as just about half of that summer and the next couple was spent in my pal Al's red Bertam running around Nantucket bay doing stupid stuff and loving every minute of it......Bill S

Super nice. You did a great job!
|
That is hands down the most beautiful, loving, meticulous, painstaking and well documented restoration I think I've ever seen here. Thank you for sharing every step with us. Maybe someday one of us will be able to come close to that quality of work. Now, enjoy her out on the water!
|
what a beautiful job. your hard work will certainly be enjoyed.
|
I want to know how he blocked the boat and got the trailer out of that little garage? :eekdrop:
|
You gotta be kidding me! Post number 128 literally took my breath away!!!
Beautiful!!! |
WOW !!!Awesome restoration on a beautiful. boat. :ernaehrung004:
|
i gotta say, that actually completely blew me away. It's nice to see someone take the original parts and actually "restore" them and not just throw everything away and put all new gear on. A++++++ Thankyou for taking the time to share those pics with us!
|
Really beautiful...... I remember that boat at Blue Lagoon .................... AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:party-smiley-020: |
Great Job!!!
Most people think of Don Aronow when thinking of Offshore Racing but Dick Bertram won the 1960 Miami-Nassau race with Griffith. The Bertram 38 Competitions are gorgeous boats also. Wannabe |
that first "moppie" was wood...
we should ALL be thanking Jim Wynne... |
We had a great time with the Baron this summer but it was time to put her up for the winter. We had so many people come up to us asking us who made the boat and they thought it was brand new and couldn't belive it when we told them it was over 40 years old. This thing loves the big water of the atlantic. The few times we had it out in the open ocean it handles the 5-6 foot seas with no problem. We actually had the coast guard snapping pictures of us running and I would have loved to see the pictures to see what it looked like coming out of the water. I want to thank everyone for the great comments and have a good winter.

Thanks so much for sharing this build!
|
Capt, you made an artful restoration! Thanks for documenting the build , was fascinating to watch a backyard project that can turn out like yours.
|
----You have done Dick Bertram proud. Use the boat as it was intended. It was built to take the punishment and laugh (if a boat could)..........Bill S
|
just had the priviledge of reading this entire build thread......WOW is all I can say!
|
Wow! I love your boat- its a true thing of beauty. It was also fun watching your progress. I've done a few restorations but none to the level that you did here. Enjoy and great job!

Wow beautiful restoration, where will it be running?

captaintyler,
Your boat Sir is a class act, both an inspiration and an example of how it should be done. Beautiful work. Kalaazar |
Bertram Barn Value
We have just taken our Bertram out of winter storage. The way things are looking it doesn't look like it will get much use this summer. I've been contemplating putting it up for sale but I'm not really sure what its value would be. I guess its worth what someone will pay. You never see the Baron 28's for sale so there are no good comparable boats to set the price. I've seen some similar style boats from the same era for sale but they don't have the built quality as a Bertram or the customization that I have put into my boat. What would be a reasonable asking price and the best way to advertise it as I'm sure it will not sell locally up here in Maine. I'm open to suggestions.

Hate to hear your putting it up for sale, but someone will love owning this beauty. Good luck finding her a new home.

Amazing job!
I don't really know how applicable this is given the condition she is in today, but at least it is some kind of starting point. Bristol would be an insult to your boat in my opinion. www.bucvalu.com shows this as value: BERTRAM YACHT INC, FORT LAUDERDALE, FL Model Year 1970 Hull Material Model BARON Hull Configuration Length Overall 28' Draft Length On Deck Beam Boat Type Runabout | Open Weight Engine Type Inboard-Outboard Twin 200G Mercury Marine/Mercruiser Retail Price Range:* $19,600-$21,700 Area and condition are not represented in the price above. Please see the vessel condition table below, to determine how condition affects market value. Area adjustments and replacement values are available with BUCValuPro.
