It is the ultimate project. When he's done he'll probably have 10-15k invested into something that looks like a 90k+ boat. :D

Nov 17th, got the rest of my US Composites order in today. I have to grab the rest I ordered from my friend who owns a Benjamin Moore store. (50) 1 quart containers, (15) 5 quart containers, (15) 1-1/2 chip brushes, 3 tyvek suits, and 50 stir sticks for $53.

From US Composites I got 5 gallons of 700 vinylester, 4 gallons of cabosil, 4 pounds of 1/2" chopped, 10 pounds of 1/4" chopped, a 4" x 1/2" fiberglass roller, a mixer, 10 yards (38" and 50") 1-1/2 oz csm , and 10 yards (38"and 50") of 1708. 40 yards total. Price shipped $569.00

Awesome that you're starting to get geared up, but I'm going to make one suggestion: You will need 4x as many chip brushes, easy. I'd make a trip to harbor freight... they sell a BOX of chip brushes for about $12 or so, I think there's 25 in there. Also, I was working in the summer so the temperature was really affecting how fast the resin "went off", so I was using really small containers. The cheapest place I found was Walmart.... HOWEVER.... if you go to a grocery store, sometimes they have a salad bar with a TON of quart sized containers. Yeah. Snag as many as you can! :D

Cash & Carry also has a great selection of plastic containers. We use them to mix water based inks that can't sit around.

Today I picked up 2 pieces of 4x8 cabinet grade ply. Has 7 plys and hardly any imperfections. I wanted two 1/2's and one 3/4" but they only sell 3/4". So I will build to my total of 2" with glass.

I plan on laying it out like this 1708, 1708, 1-1/2 mat, ply, 1708, 1-1/2 mat, ply, 1708, PB (resin, 1/4 chopped, cabosil) then hull.

Is that about right?

Are you starting on the transom first ?
If you are definitely start with the csm under the 1708 for good adhesion and apply the 1708 layers changing the 45/45 bias orientation to give strength in all directions . I used Penske board or Coosa board as it is also referred to for coring . It's light and can't absorb water .
My boat is going out for fuel tanks in two weeks but I'm still debating what to do for the cockpit .

I'm starting it as we speak, I'm laminating the transom together first then installing it. I figured using csm on one side side then putting the 17 side against that and the 08 side to the other. Or should I use two csm ply with one in the center?
