[QUOTE=larslindroth;4055882]I spent last night reading what I could find on the internet with regards to what You have done in the automotive world Shaun. To sum it up I salute You for being driven by passion, not just for the technical aspects of old NASCAR, IMSA etc., but for the history surrounding the sports. You showed a keen interest for the people that were involved back then and Your undertakings clearly proved that it was out of the respect for those individuals and what they had accomplished that You kept at it.

From what I gathered, I'm 100 percent convinced that You are trying Your outmost to make sure these historical powerboat racing parts ends up in the right hands. Not so much to make sure that You get every penny these parts may be worth, but that they end up where they are treasured for what they are and that they will come to good use and honor the legacy that Mr. Gentry left to the performance boat aficionados.

It will be the hours logged by folks running their boats fit with these parts and the friendships made while they improve on their crafts that matter. I personally don't know Carson Brummett. Neither have I been to his shop. The only thing I know for a fact is that anytime his name is mentioned in boaters' circles, adjectives like; kind, helpful, honorable, knowledgeable, trustworthy keeps being spoken. His late father Lou Brummett was a living legend, but Carson has created his own legacy and is the one that Mr. Gentry chose to carry on his finding with marine turbo engines. Like mentioned, Carson got to buy all the manufacturing molds from Mr. Gentry and has from then on continued to develop the marine turbo engine technology, but also been the guru that boaters with turbo motors got help from to run what they had. I end it here Shaun, You got the drift.

I'm glad You are the one that ended up with these containers Shaun. Enjoy the project. Mr. Gentry would have been happy to see You handle this for him.

Cheers, Lars.

Thank you Lars and we will do our best to make sure everything goes to a good home. I owe mr. Brummett a call thanks for his contact info.

My most recent project, kind of a crap deal a Mustang I bought as a Fastback that turned out to be a Notchback, we are going crazy on as a track day car/resto mod. try to turn lemons into lemonade http://www.stangtv.com/features/car-...tang-fastback/

Anyways... any info on the boat stuff is appreciated. I'll post more photos as soon as I have them.

thanks

Hello Shaun

I think I saw you on the track at the Historics in the Impaler,,,seems like you had to go slow due to brake issues? Nice project.... I am camped at bottom of corkscrew/Rainey curve each year next to the Dunkels sea of brown Motorhomes- stop by for a soda pop if you leave the paddock! I’ll look for you this year- I normally hang with the Trans Am cars, a friend races a '68 Camaro (I have a ’67).

My Father in Law (FIL) bought his current home in Dublin from Tom- must of been 1963 wifey estimates. There was a problem with the house & Tom graciously told my FIL he would make it right & to pick any house in the construction area that he wanted. FIL lives in that house to this day and remembers Tom as a true Gentleman!

I last saw Tom strolling down Duval St ahead of my wife and I the night before his last race- arm in arm with his gorgeous wife who I assume was Kiana. Sadly I watched events unfold from the Pier house the next day as only one helmet emerged from the overturned boat.

I have a collection of Offshore items and like others am interested in any small memorabilia you may be parting with- or if I can help PM me.

Looks like you have some leads to get things moving…and friends that can help.

Hi Lane, yep that was me and I was going a bit slow that day not because of the brakes (Although stoping a 5500lbs beast with its original drum brakes going 120mph coming into turn 1 isn't a small feat, think boat anchor to use a familiar analogy for the audience here :)) but because we were running on 6 cylinders. Given the tight timeframe of the project (30 days to restore the car!) I had zero time to test or dyno the motor. The motors cam went flat and we lost two of the valves. It was amazing that I was even able to get the car to go around the track come Sunday. You can see and hear in this video the hurt motor as I pull onto hot pit here. If I didn't keep the RPM's, above 2000rpm up the engine would die.

Something I'm sure you guys who race old boats can relate to...I can't describe how cool it is to take a car which was sitting in a barn and hadn't turn a lap in competition in over 40 years around Laguna Seca. It was seriously like being in a time machine. The smells the sounds, the adrenaline of coming into a corner hoping you still had brakes ahhh it was so cool.

P.S. This should be a commercial for 3M tape -- one super cool thing on the car, it was so complete and original if you look at this photo you'll see it has tape on the center of the steering wheel. I spoke to Roy Mayne's (original driver) daughter Veronica, and she remembered him putting tape on that steering wheel when she was a little girl. Under the tape is an old red rag as she recalls --- its still there. With a little armourall we polished it up and its still that original 40 year old tape on there if you can believe it.

When we got her:

Photo of steering wheel today same tape and a rag under it we think.. :)

You're welcome Shaun and I'm certain something good will come out of that.

Kind regards, Lars.

If Tom Gentry was still here their would be no 1350 mercs. That guy got things done.

My apologies for the distraction from Gentry artifacts :) ...I believe you ran with these cars that day...you must of been at the top of the hill with valve problems when these were shot...photos courtesy of my friend Rob Behm.

And some trivia- Many of you may know Bob Madera of Marine Kinetics who posts here- we were chatting about a cam this summer-
I asked him how he started in the business. He let me know that he campaigned/crew chief the 13 car in 1970 against Sam Posey! (Sorry Bob couldn't resist showing off this beauty)

!

The 'Oil Derricks' did not trim or steer---usually had two or three engines driving them---

Hi those pics were taken during Sunday morning practice, my car did not run. We basically blew the motor during Saturday race and decided to save the car for Sunday premier event which she just barely made.

Vid here of me bringing up the rear on Sunday. Old girl just couldn't keep up with 6 cylinders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GpN6ck0Dzw
