Stumbled across this one Smarty. Bought back some great memories of the Jersey Shore and when performance boats came before girls. If you ever get out to Havasu let me know, you can take my Zx14 busa killer for a blast. Cheers

Since the last couple of posts have been about fast old school cars, did you old timers also race your street bikes like the Honda pictured below ? And if yes have you ever ridden this monster the Hayabusa ?
I have never owned a street bike, but I have a this craving to ride a Hayabusa, get seat time, then go to Atco Dragway with it, common sense and fear is what is holding me back....but one of these days I want to drive the Hayabusa without killing myself...I think close to 200 mph on a street bike from the showrroom is dam impressive.

Seeing this post about your interest in riding a 'Busa...
I make parts for a local shop that sells upgrade components for rice rockets. Speaking with the owner one day, he told me "Sane people shouldn't own a 'Busa". He'd been on the track on one at 202MPH, and he said that if he never had to do that again, he'd be OK with it. He also told me about his test rider that took one through the traps at 262MPH. His comment was, "He's a good friend of mine, but he really needs his head examined." He also told me you learn a new definition of the word "exposed" at that speed.
I've always been a speed junkie, but, being one eye from blind already, I really have no business on a bike of any kind, let alone one that capable. That said, we are in the same boat: I have never owned a street bike, but I share your dream of twisting the throttle of a 'Busa. I also share your fear and common sense and will probably never even attempt to make it happen.

I have a ZX14 with a turbo that had the speed limiter disabled , The big thing I will tell you don't lift your head above the wind screen at those speeds it will want to rip your helmet off.

On the speeds, I have to ask, according to what?
Ive spent a fair amount of $$ and effort chasing OB “top speeds” of old and have found many to be “folklore”, “indicated”, “radar” (!!) etc.
Huge difference from top to bottom.
Read the criticisms of the speeds “posted” by LOTO.
Fast is fast but, 75 mph from ‘1976 probably ain’t GPS, Kilo timed etc. of today.

Love this video!
From back in the day but shows you what really ran what, in smaller boats anyhow.

The radar gun at the Barnegat Bay New Jersey radar shootouts humbled a lot of the hot rods. Many of the alleged 88 mph boats back then ended up being 80-81 mph boats. But there were a lot of hot rods and it was still pretty cool.

If it’s equal, we don’t care.
I used to host a run where we gave drivers a hand held GPS and 15 mins to post their best number.
Baddest there won, period.
But it ain’t a Kilo run or comparing to those numbers which many lose track of.
