Here's the pink stuff after two days of temps not much over 0 degrees and some pretty bitter wind.

It's fairly solid but, as someone mentioned, that doesn't mean it has expanded.

Hey Dredd, Nice one on the pink stuff. So in reality you can get away with it providing you get all the water out of the system . Looking at the video, just a little more water in the gallon jug and you will get a freeze, now you have lost a motor, or manifold or cooler. After they freeze and you thaw them out, now starts the real fun, trying to save the motor. What actually failed ?

If you completely drain the system, then why would you want to turn around and add any antifreeze?
If the answer is "so it won't rust", then why not just use "Sierra" (dog-safe) anti-freeze to begin with?
Sorry, but I don't trust the pink stuff. Ice is ice whether it's solid or not, and when ice melts it expands. When it expands, it breaks things.
Personally, I hook up, start and run the engine on the hose long enough to warm up and open the thermostat.
Then I disconnect the garden hose and hook up a short hose (customized by Gordo) that draws from a 6 gal. bucket of 50/50 Sierra mix, (good to -30* below). Fog the engine the last 3-5 seconds just as it draws the last of the anti-freeze mix.
The first couple of times I did this I still pulled hoses off the exhaust just to make sure.
Now days, I've got no worries or second thoughts, the inside of the heads, block, oil/steering coolers and exhaust are all covered and protected. The next spring I trickle charge the battery for a bit, hook up to the hose, fire it up, warm it up and head for the lake.

Although, windchill has no effect on it.

Nice Photo Johnniekool
How ever you cut it, once you have tried to cheat and improperly winteized, if have it wrong , it will be a costly spring.
Suppose to warm up tomorrow to 31 degrees, like summer.
Have a great day.

Millions of boaters and RV'rs must be mistaken then.
