It can happen if the lifter bore index is off, or the cam lobe is tapered. Or, sometimes chit just happens

I didn't build these engines, bought boat with 80 ish hrs on them.
Have had other builders tell me about noise issues with Morels (quiet one min, rattling like crazy the next- I believe 1Moses1 threw his out for the same reason) Fwiw I went with the GM lifters they use in the ZZ motors and they are working great. |
