Dude I have friends with 38 cigs, 37 midnights, 36 skaters all with a TRUE 1100hp + and when we go out the driver drives and the rest of us are watching gauges for one reason to prevent the loss of very expensive motors....
If you motor heads take a boat out and beat the piss out of it with fresh power and don't monitor gauges you deserve to have a melt down!!!! Just sayin.. IDK
I thought you said he beat on them all summer? Sounds like he is just now getting them put back together!! Sounds to me that the melt down could have possibly been avoided by simply monitoring some gauges!!!

Mike isn't talking about his motors going to the dyno btw.

Bob Madera never did anything with those motors. He was gonna spec new cams for them, but owner went a different route.
I can see you're trying to stir the pot with false information. Before attempting to somehow attack me personally on oso, for something I have nothing to do with, why don't you pony up for a paid membership big guy. Then you can post pictures up of your engines and show us all how its done.

I'm not attacking you just doing research on who knows engines and who doesn't..
My engines aren't anything special Gm 502 crates with Crane 741 cams roller motors with Stainless Marine Hi Torque manifolds with dry exhaust to the tips equivalent to hp 500's.. The boat has Imco boxes with my drives set at 4" below the boat..Oh and I do have Lathem steering.. Boat runs right at 80.. I'm thinking that the Quick Fuel carb might squeeze some more out of it!!!

Come on boys I know the story behind the guys engines over in Mokena.. Lets just say you can't port heads with a dremel tool and ship them out the door!!! Just Sayin IDK thats my opinion, maybe someone else will chime in and confirm that
and the dude did go to Bob Madera to purchase all new parts for his engines because he couldn't get his boat on plane because of the Shadetree Mechanics that put them together!!!

I'm not attacking you just doing research on who knows engines and who doesn't..

Obviously not you.
I have 502 crate engines that had oil issues also, to the point that one of them had to be rebuilt because of lack of oil to the mains.. So I decided to remove the center valve and plug the outer one, hoping this would solve my high oil temp issues.. Well with 140 t-stats my water temp ran about 160 and my oil temps climbed well above 250* on the hose...
Is it possible that there isnt enough water going thru the system by being on the hose for the oil temps to be so high?
We did install crane 731 cams in the engines, also installed huge oil coolers and a teague block adapter, I should add that I used the stock remote filter adapter and the stock oil lines from a 454 mag on the 502.. Is it possible that the oil lines are restricting the flow of oil and slowing it down as it travels through the system?
I do have another question! I have dry exhaust if there isnt enough water flow thru the cooling system of the block and oil cooler could that cause the high oil temps? Basically I guess I'm asking if I'm not dumping enough water from the cooling system would it cause the oil temps to be higher than if I was using say stock mercruiser exhaust?

LOL ended up the high temps were from ground issues with the wiring behind the dash.. All is good and the boat runs fantastic!!
BTW I'm not claiming to be a Shadetree Mechanic!!!
