I run twin 540's with Dart Pro1 325 CNC'd Heads, Dart single plane intakes w/ a 1"spacer on top of the intake for more air velocity,, they perform flawlessly, idle nicely at 850 rpm , low end torque is great, mid range and up to wot is very crisp and responsive, I like them, would buy them again.

253.......how much hp and torque do you have and who did your motors?

My engines were never on a dyno so I don't know, they were built by a marine engine builder in Indiana.
I jetted and tuned the carbs. and distributors myself.

Just purchased the AFR heads about two weeks ago- I am now wondering your guys thoughts on Arp head bolts. To go with bolts or studs? I am leaning towards bolts because I already have a brand new set laying around. But don't know how critical studs are.

Also was looking at the stud girdles Are they necessarily for the 741 cam?

Thanks tom

I use ARP studs and Dart stud girdles, I don't believe it makes any difference which you use, just check with ARP to be sure you get the correct strength bolts or studs for your application, let them know what heads you will use, etc., they offer many different ones.

Studs aren't necessary and I wouldn't use that 741 cam with the afr heads. They have a very efficient exhaust port and don't need the extra duration, or lift, they could benefit a little more intake lift and duration.

Im running ARP studs, they are specific length's for the AFR heads, I will always run stud girdles, even tho the off the shelf ones will work they don't line up exactly and may have a tendency to pull the valve stem to one side, Call Bob M. and get the billet aluminum one that are CNC'd for the AFR head and get the cam from him while your at it.

JoMar Performance makes stud girdles for just about everyone. I think they even make them for AFR. I've been to their shop and they have Dart and AFR heads everywhere. Their price is better as well. I have a set of their stud girdles on my AFRs and you can tell they are made for them by the close fit. If you use the wrong girdles you will screw up your geometry big time as the AFR heads changed the valve angles.

What is the best high rise single plane intake to go with AFR's and a Holley dominator?
