I always see your subtle digs thrown at the DTS dyno we use . I'm just curious , what dyno do you use?
My engines were dynoed and came out with 800hp. They went in a 38 fountain fever non stepped hull with #4s. A local guy to me had the same hull, same drives, with 750 supercats. Race boat that spent time at lake x being dialed in back in the day. My setup is identical except his hull was stripped race hull, mine full pleasure boat. You know what his boat ran at lake x? 90mph. You know what my boat runs on lake michigan? 90mph. Close enough for me.
Mike tkachs 1200hp engines. 588ci, Dart 355cnc heads, 8.3L Whipple's with intercoolers, why shouldn't they make 1200hp?
Icdedplls 540s? 893hp. Dart 345s , 10-71 stage 3 blowers , 8lbs of boost, any reason those shouldn't have made 893?
Nobody here at this camp is providing dyno sheets to impress or chest thump. Its simply to share combos and talk about them, or give others an idea of what kind of power certain combos are capable of. Our dyno shop we use isn't building our engines, and has zero interest in providing us with false numbers.
we use these 2 dynos and numbers were backed up at the track and on 2 chassis dynos.I'm not about pieces of paper that say hp/tq,I'm about what the boat runs, before and after.
dynos are:
stuska w/ XS-211 water brake and D/pack data aquisition
Froude F24 water brake with Avl load control
second dyno listed tested alot of engine combos, mercs 700-1200hp,teagues 85-1100hp,they all showed low, merc 1050,came up the best at 990hp.
thats why when a boat came in and said hp from new engine went in was lower than what came out, everybody got nervous,,but when the boat ran faster,,whats that say??
so why am I skeptical,,because I've seen alot of pulls and alot of combos from some of the best.so I have a pretty damn good idea what x,y,z combo is gonna make.just saying.
as for your fountain,,I know a 38 w/ bravos and na 540's that ran 89mph gps(and keep your conservative gps bs to yourself),and he had no where near 800hp.
I've just seen to much stretching of hp and boats mph stretched on this site.
like you,,I run w/ alot of guys and w/ 2 gps on my boat,I clock alot of guys and hear after the run the bs speeds they say they run. Then I get called names for telling the truth.think I care, nope because at the end of the day,it is what it is.
hell I tell everyone I have 600hp,I only go 65mph.

just hope you have/get a sharp dyno operator who can notice the warning sign's.

if you can get to a dyno,,use the 91octane and really load the engine down and look for detonation on what ever final timing your gonna run.Look at the egt's too because pulling timing out can make an engine run hot.

A non stepped 38 Fever with #4s can be a world away from a stepped 38 lightning or even stepped 38 fever with bravos. My boat came with 420's and TRS. With that combo it was a sub 70mph boat. Puts it not far off of what a straight bottom top gun would run with that power. A straight bottom gun with 800s and speedmasters will run mid 80s . I know some 38 Top Guns that run mid 80s with 600s. They aren't straight bottom boats with wet sump speedmasters either. A non stepped 42 with 800sc mercs brand new, in salt, would run 84 mph.
To sum it up you are saying you think my combo is not making the power it is? I mean I hear ya on the claimed power numbers , and bs'ing about speed numbers on the internet. Myself, I'm not in that loop of taking peoples money and covering up my hackery with bullchit. Plenty of those guys around. And plenty of guys who claim to be big time engine builders and yet secretly have their engines blowing up in the field, but won't share that on the web.

Hi, Here is some info on the motors.
The boat is a full race model, Mercury racing Motors are lower compression, stroked to 525's built by MRD. The carbs are 850 Holly performance custom by Chuck Nguytten, Ported Jenkins heads by Merlin, titanium valves, forged internals, balanced and blueprinted motors. I am not a mechanic unfortunately,as for the cam specs and compression ratios ,Ill need to ask my mechanic. Sorry ,I will try to get some tech specs for you. The motors are a total beast with a sound to match.
It has SSM #4 Drives with 4 blade props and custom built velvet drive transmissions.

don,t tell anybody but the one we ran last week is built for 89 because that is what his marina has.peak power was at 35 total with no signs of detonation.it will be 33-34 in the boat.

Outstanding! I'll be running all this by the dyno guy when the time comes. My current plugs are NGK heat range 8 to start with as well.
