couldn't care less if you stick a 400R on the end, but aren't those rated for 125?, i've seen them often on craigslist in our area but i never thought i could legally put my 135 on it. do they even have a coast guard h.p rating on them? totally agree though, timeless classics.
Stuff the rating, stick with the 135.

Hmm... so what about just polishing? It had some pretty bad oxidation...

The transom seems pretty solid... a couple years ago they had a metal bracket fabricated up for some additional support.

Couple of silly questions for anyone smarter than I. Can you still buy parts for that 140 from a Merc dealer or are you limited now to shopping after market and second hand? When did the Alpha drive come out? Would it be near impossible searching drive parts?
Something else I've always wondered about has been asked above. Can you bring the clear over metal flake back to life after it has oxidized?
