I bought a MR Cool oil cooler direct replace the for my 8.1/496. Besides the fact that the fitting were in the wrong location, the quality didn't come close to the factory mercury. The cooler was thinner with stamped (thinner)ends in it compared to the cast (thicker) ends on the Merc. I sent it back for a refund and bought the Merc.

I bought mine from Diamond Performance Parts. Bill was excellent to deal with, I am sure he would be honest on the life expectancy.

I'm sorry to hear this. What failed?
I have mine mounted on the back of the engine on a 2"x4"x12" piece of angled aluminum. Been mounted this way since 2006. I had to notch the bottom around the bell housing. It's bolted to the 2 threaded holes in the bell housing.

I have the Dan Olsen style coolers, you have to control water flow instead of oil to regulate oil temp but I like how compact they are and they don’t require oil lines. Can also disassemble them and clean/rebuilt

hello rookie,,
well i guess,,to a certain piont, i am lucky i have closed coolant syste,,or motor would be full of water and oil.
so,,i was going to winterize the fresh water side,,lake water goes to strainer then oil ,,trans coolers then to crank driven water pump then up to heat exchanger then headers,so did the port motor all was good,,then took hose off johnson pump ,,,was loooking for alaittle water to come out,,instead i get about 1/4 cup of engine oil...
i was .........wtf........called mr .cool...said well they are three years old,,,maybe i didnt winterize correct,,honestly i really dont need to winterize anything ,,as boat sits in my insulted heated garage..
i will be mounting them similar to yours rookie,,,first is oil out of boat..but then if i cant get them out ,,buying new one anyways,,,just have to also buy trans cooler..
thanks advice,,,post photo,,i have a starter and remote oil filter to deal with..
thanks again
