all the engine shops here are telling me 6-9 months before they could get to it, thats if I remove them. And no idea what will find once they are out. Both actually locked up and sat too long. Might not be enough there to rebuild. Seems like a downward spiral in costs and i was hoping to get it on the water sooner than later. time - unknown costs - no patience.

I wish I was smart enough to understand any of it. Laughing. But I called them today and asked a lot of questions and either they are really good at answering or its real or both haha. I cant imagine not after talking to them, but who knows. I cant afford it, unfortunately, but was aweseme to talk to them. I asked abotu the 8000 rpm... i was told that they turn between 6000 and 6500 in most builds at max rpm, but engines are capable of 8000+ due to quality.
The fact that this engine produces 600 hp at 6000–6500 rpm ant not by 8000 rpm, certainly changes the picture.
At 6000 rpm, you get 525 lb-ft of torque, which is almost identical to the torque of the EFI 525 at 5300 rpm.
At 6600 rpm, you get 477 lb-ft of torque, which might already be at the limit for a boat like this.

Since I’ve been heavily critical, I have to correct myself.

Locked up is a PITA for sure...but not insurmountable.
Often just the rings take a set in the bore.
6-9 months for a rebuild? Sounds like there's opportunity there.

It help people to view TQ at lower RPM and HP at higher RPM. But really, it's all about power generated, and geared to an optimal output RPM for the intended task.
I'm all for interesting engine builds, but this potential project doesn't pass the basic concepts of practicality.
OP could have good used reliable BBCs or new ones shipped to him. Maybe drive 1000 miles to a shop willing to rebuild the cores. Lots of options.
Could you imagine the cost overruns on a custom Lambo twin engines for a perf offshore boat? Maintenance?
BBCs are king of marine perf because they're brutes that perform.

I still cant afford it, but after tons of research and time, i think BBC's are king because its what people know. I spoke to several shops that swear since VW took over lam, parts are cheap, reliability is VW, and so forth. Also, i found parts to be similar priced to vw. Then there is the novelty of a screaming v10. Maybe its watching all those cars when i was a kid, but man, its not always performance. Id give a left ummm yeah for a countach. Hell, a new minivan outperforms one... but it s the ideology and the fun and whatever. Im not suggesting its a good deal, or even affordable, or even a good idea.... but sometimes novelty and fun and desire take creed. Just sayin. Its not all what will go faster or practical. Is a diablo practical? Does it run well? Hell no. Is it cool and fun?? Depends on your life and what you know. Im just saying to me, ig I had the money, rain or shine, Id be there. And again, if they are doing it, it must work or they'd get betting blasted everywhere. They arent that I can tell.
doesnt matter either way, but sometimes folks gotta look at the exotic side, the fun side, ideologies.... not practicality or just function. My .,02 for this week.
