The project has been held up for a bit waiting on the center dash panel to come back from the supplier after some needed modifications to fit the new GPS unit. Jerry should get it today and after hooking up the switches and gps the engines can be fired up, lines bled and the boat should hit the water for testing this weekend.

It's come a long way from when Jerry first received it.

The center console is going to get covered with the same carbon fiber material as the dash panels and the one cup holder moved by the side of the other instead of in front of it.

Looks Awesome!

Before you move the cup holders, keep in mind that people will be stepping on the console quite a bit to access the deck. Make sure there is an area big enough for them to step and strong enough to support their weight. I used to have the stereo (got smashed twice while it was there ) where the step plate is now.

Since that picture, I moved the indicators down and installed a Garmin 4208 in the top center.

Marginmn 06-21-2012 07:22 AM

Your dash looks great Tom. Maybe I should just keep the holders where they are and mount a step plate next to them. Thanks a bunch.

The final panel arrived yesterday. It should hit the water in a few days.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but do the Arneson cases hang down below the notched transom?

I'm still dreaming about a ZRC. Wish I could swing one but maybe one of these days. I want one of the old ones though. Anyone know what ever happened to the Ross' Snap-On Tools boat?

Yes they do, the rigger filled in the notch to accommodate for the overhang.

Tom made a list of where all the known ZRC's were. That one may have been overseas.

Here are the 17 x 26 - 18 rake Herring 6 blades that I was talking about.

PM me your email and I will shoot you some pics.

Jerry decided on a 36 inch LCD instead of a GPS so we could watch the football games while running down the lake. :)

She's floating. They took her out but the tachs weren't reading. They can read the V-10's but apparently were not calibrated from the factory to do so they are working on resolving that today. They got her up to 103 on the first pass (without the hatch on) but had no idea where their rpm's were so they called it a day.

Check out how much higher the boat is sitting in the rear with the Ilmors staggered vs the old side-by-side 500's.

Congratulations!!

Any more testing results

Marginmn 07-18-2012 08:02 PM

Jerry tested the boat with 37 wheels but they were too big. He was only pulling 5000 rpm. He dropped the boat off in Sarasota at Doug Valentine's Performance International last week. The boat went there because Doug has access to about any prop we need and he is also going to do that tweak to the hull that we discussed earlier in the thread if need be once he gets it propped out. Doug is also changing out the red panels to the gray/silver to match the seats. After thinking about it the red panels make it look a little too choppy for me. We are also looking hard at putting new canopies on her. Hope to have some more test results by the end of the week.

tax man 07-18-2012 08:27 PM

Since it is in Sarasota you should leave it down here for a few more months and do a couple FMO runs with it

Jerry still has a few items after Doug is finished with it and the boat has a date up in Michigan with Mitcher T - and I plan on doing the Lake Cumberland Poker run in Sept. :)

But after all of that I am looking forward to doing the FMO runs in it late fall/winter. :)

Tom A. 07-19-2012 12:34 PM

The newer style canopies are awesome! Mine has those and they are crystal clear and distortion free. Doug will make that boat perfect, he knows what "tweaks" were made from yours to mine to make that hull perfect.
I would bet a 36 is what you need. I swing a 35 with my 700's and with you having a bit more hp combined with the Arnesons, you can probably go a bit bigger.

Marginmn 07-19-2012 02:36 PM

What RPM are you seeing with yours Tom?

Tom A. 07-19-2012 02:42 PM

Best I saw was 5400. The props have been "tweaked since they were perfect and the repairs hurt the numbers a little. You will be different though because you run a #6 prop vs. my Bravo style.

Marginmn 07-19-2012 02:59 PM

My Ilmors make their best HP around 5900 to 6000 so I may need to drop all the way down to a 33-34 because I sure couldn't turn a 37.

Tom,

Did you go with the tinted or clear canopies?

Tom A. 07-20-2012 08:00 AM

4 Attachment(s)
Mine has the clear. Donzi had just installed them on the boat when I bought it.

My friend Bob who owns Speed Racer, put a tinted windshield on and it looks real cool but it is real hard to see through in bad weather, low light, etc. Also, you can't wear sunglasses because it gets too dark to see clearly.

Here are a few shots of the canopies. The last one was the original ones on the boat before they were changed.

Marginmn 07-20-2012 09:11 AM

Man those do look clear - the last pic looks just like mine, yellowing. Looks like it's time for new canopies. Tks Tom. I love your black carbon fiber dash btw.

VetteLT193 07-20-2012 09:44 AM

FYI: DonziDirect sells the canopies. I stumbled on them when poking around on their web site. Those canopies pull some serious coin. :eekdrop:

Tom A. 07-20-2012 09:55 AM

Thanks for the compliment. I love the C/F dash and the clear canopies.

Talk to Josh to see if you can get a better price.

Not to take business away from him but Aeromarine is the company that makes them.

Sadly no. There is a laundry list of little issues that popped up like the gps speedos not working, delamination of clutch plates in the transmissions....... and the biggest issue being that I decided to put new canopies on her. The turnaround time on that is going to be a while. I said screw it and decided to get it all fixed upfront and bag what little time I had left this season.

Did you get the Fever going?

Tom A. 08-28-2012 08:37 PM

Hey Rob,

Did you talk to Carmen at Aero-Marine. I had a real enlightening conversation with her today about my canopies which I thought were hers but apparently they came from Acylico. Mine really started to craze this summer and apparently Aero-Marine uses a different process to lessen that. They are still much better than the yellow ones but whe it comes time to replace them, I will go with the Aero-Marine set.

Do it once and do it right.

Marginmn 08-28-2012 09:14 PM

Thanks Tom,

Yes, Doug is working with Aero on the canopies. He's afraid to just order a set pre-drilled like other ZRC's because with my boat being the first one made it wasnt done on the production line - so he is not sure that the holes for the canopies would match up with holes drilled for the later boats once they set the line up for production. When they are done testing the boat he's going to take the canopies off and send them out to Aero to make sure they match up.

keiter 08-29-2012 06:02 AM

Yes the fever is up and running. Jason at Kunkels Marine did the final dial in I did'nt have a lot of experience with pro charger.( what a good guy) we love it thanks again. just had it up a put in bay 2 weeks ago. I,m coming down for the poker run on another boat hope to meet up with you.

Glad to hear that it is up and running. Back in 2000 I had Kunkels build me out a 270 Convincer. Harold and Jason were great people to deal with. Even back then Jason had a reputation for being one of the go-to guys who really knew his way around a pro charger. You could not have picked a better place to have your pro charger installed.

I"ll be out running around in the red Advantage. Give me a yell if you see my boat. Where are you guys staying?

Btw, Keith, here's your boat in last year's LC poker run. :)

OO1 is up in Michigan at Mitcher T's undergoing a complete cosmetic refurbish and paint job. After more than a decade of use the ole girl had a few wrinkles. Save the K-planes 001 was totally stripped to allow every inch of her to be brought back to new condition. She should look brand new when they are finished.

Mitch is also installing new Aero Marine canopies. Not an easy job as they will have to reconfigure both the deck and the canopies a bit to fit them. No matter what curve balls we throw at them the guys at Mitcher T can do it all. I also threw in a couple of pics of what 001 looked like when it came off the line back in the day. We also had the hatch modified to reflect the staggered configuration of the engines. I should have some after pics in a few weeks.

We changed the interior side panels to gray because the red clashed. Here's what it should look like when Mitch is finished.

Mitch is awesome. Your boat will look great
