Mike, tks for sending the pics to Jerry.

Here are some recent pics. Jerry is close to making the transom cuts.

Looks Awesome!

I love the way the hatch came out and those Arnesons are going to look sick hanging off the back! Nice to have a blank canvas to play with the exhaust now too! Maybe shotgun the tips together on each side of the drives.

Kinda the direction we are headed with the exhaust so the custom aluminum swim platform fits and is usable. Got the drives dry fit today pics to follow water pick up tomorrow.

I realize that people are probably thinking, "Oh no, not a swim platform!" But without one hanging off the back it would be such a hassle to get on and off the boat when it is backed into the slip and on the lift.

Here are some designs that Ryan B. was kicking around. I think I am leaning more towards a solid color with some border and OO1 graphic to break it up. It's still a work in progress. I just love the look of the solid red boats but think even they need something to break up the solid red. And then there is the issue of a red deck in the summer.

The designs are cool but look a little Formulaesque. Nothing against them or Formula, I like Formula and their look, just my humble opinion.

Drives mounted look awesome!

Just a thought coming from someone who owns a "vanilla" boat. I get a ton of compliments around the docks about how timeless and bad-azz my boat looks. Some boats can look so dated by their colors and designs and honestly in a rainbow sea of colors, the single color boats really stand out.

Marginmn 01-18-2012 12:01 PM

Thanks Tom, Your boat does look awesome. If I can't come up with something I really like then I probably will just stick with white and some red highlighting.

Tom,

You are exactly right. I get the same response to the silver boat. Solid red with black boot and deck stripes are badazzzz.

Last idea for paint, I promise!

Invert this ZRC theme and mimic the classic.

Then add red LED lights!:evilb:

Post some pics when you can Keith. I"m anxious to see how she turns out. BTW, there's like 2/3 of a tank of gas in there when you to get her running. 93 Octane with plenty of stabilizer.

I like the old school SS style stripes on the classic. I painted Jeff M. 22 classic years ago that same paint scheme with blue & light tan. Could be a little HOT on the piggies though.

If you have other ideas I'd love to hear them Mike. Could we do red on the sides and somehow blend in white on the deck?

I don't see where that would be a problem. I'll put something visual together this weekend.

Marginmn 01-26-2012 05:16 PM

Thanks Mike. Look forward to seeing them.

Awesome Project! Looking forward to hearing how it runs. Thanks for sharing the pics! Love the Engines and drives. Both are my favorite.

Donzi has done the "GT", "Aronow" and the "Shelby" style/theme boats but I've always wanted to see a "SS" boat. Not SS as in Super Sport but SS as in Steve Simon. Someone should pay respect to what all Steve accomplished at Donzi before he passed away. Steve was a huge part of the ZRC development.

I LOVE that idea!
He was the genius and driving force behind the whole ZR line that brought Donzi back to the forefront of performance. Aside from designing and pushing the production, I believe it was his idea to do the first run of the ZRCs in the classic Donzi racing livery of white with red trim.
His wife Dustin is a sweetheart of a woman as well.

Sorry if this is a downer but in light of filling people in about Steve. He was killed in a car crash in Florida. It is sad to think I am the same age as he was when he passed. Rest in peace Steve.

A huge part, indeed. The ZRC was Steve's baby, 100%. The first ZRCs were special boats. Not that they all aren't - even the new ones - but the care and attention that went into the first boats is something hard to understand unless you were there to witness it. Everyone who had a hand in building those boats knew they were building something special. Steve obsessed over every detail but his enthusiasm was contagious, the boats were winning races, and times were good.

After Steve's passing, an SS Edition was definitely talked about, but there were certain differences of opinion: Was it too soon, would it be perceived the right way, etc. Ultimately, it was an inspired idea that never came to pass. To those of us who knew Steve well, every ZRC is an SS Edition!

Josh

Well this is the first ZRC so I can't imagine a better one to do an SS edition on. I just need ideas of how to do it.

I remember reading of his passing in Powerboat back in 2003. I think it is a fantastic idea.

Josh is the man to talk to. He was there through the great times and bad. If you look at the most recent Donzi's with the angled name on the sides, that is a version of the way the race boats used to look.

The design I've always had in mind was really just for a 22-Classic; a solid color boat with a simple Bumble Bee stripe up both hull sides at the aft end and over the deck and hatch. I have a '67 SS Camaro so I wanted something to match the stripes on the car. This probably would not be fitting for a bigger 38'.

One of my favorite 38ZRC's was the all white boat that Steve used in some of the early photo shoots.

Solid hull color with contrasting boot and deck stripe. Large stainless steel DONZI SS logo on the rear hullside.
Main interior color same as hull or stripe, with carbon accents. Clean dash with carbon faced Monster guages. A few SS logo's here and there. People who know will know.
For me all of this would need the Simon family's blessing.
I love spending somebody else's money .... :)

Combining the Donzi logo with the Chevy SS badge.
I was thinking this logo for the rear sides and headrests.
Sorry this is just a quick thing I threw together

Hey Rob are you going to the miami show. The motors are ready to go into yhe fountain when I get back

Marginmn 02-13-2012 07:26 AM

Hi Keith,

We are finally headed to Florida this week but we aren't going to make it to the show. Give me a yell if you make it over to the Ft Myers area.

What engines are you putting in the fever?
