Default ZX33 Prop ?

I just purchased a 98 33xz with 500hp's, I was wondering if any one has tried any props on this boat besides the bravo one's that come with the boat? I currently have both 26 and 28 labbed bravo 1 props and I am not sure which ones I will be using until I get out there and test. I was thinking maybe a 27+ mirage tweaked or maybe something else. Also I think this boat swings the props out, has anyone tried running them in?

I have a 2001 with 500 EFI's and have run both a 28 Pitch labbed Mirage Plus and a 27 Pitch labbed Hydromotive.
Hydromotive gets the boat out of the water and on plane quicker and at slower speeds and gets a little more on top end.
My props turn in from the factory on my 33. A little harder to back up but picks up some top end.

Thanks for the input, what RPM's and what speed our you getting out of the 27's and the 28's? Have you tried anything else that helped the performance? I rebuilt the the top end of my motors over the winter, I was hoping I could get close to 78MPH but time will tell.

Thumbs up

I also have a 2001, 33ZX with the 500 HP's, last summer I tried both labbed 28p & 30p, Bravo One's in fresh water. The 30p seem to be two much prop for the boat, it was a dog comming out of the water and ran WOT way under 5000 RPM. I settled with the 28p which I had a more radical labbed job with both leading and trailing edges of the prop pretty thined down. The boat now runs GPS 77-79MPH at about 5200 RPM's. Althogh I did hit 80 mph once under perfect fresh water conditions. I never tried a 27p, I thought it would not be enough prop for the Boat. Good luck and keep us informed on your results.

I have a 2000 33ZX Daytona with 500EFI's and extension boxes. This winter I added MSD boxes and had the ECU's reprogrammed accordingly. So, it was time to test props.

I usually run Bravo 28p non-labbed. I borrowed a set of Hydromotive 27p's and a set of 29 labbed. The 27's came out of the hole slow and where slipping a bit. Once running, I got 5500 rpms and 83mph. The labbed 29s I really had to fight with to even get on plane. Once running I only got 82/81 mph and 5000 rpm's. Both sets really lifted the boat. But, where a disappointment overall.

I am back to my Bravo 28s running 5,100/5,200 (up river vs down river) and between 83/84 depending on conditions/weight.

I plan to lab the Bravos and twist them to 29 or better. I will let you know what happens.

Thanks for the input!! I've now have had a chance put some time on Labbed 26 Bravo 1's and 28 Bravo 1's. The 26's obviously gets on plane like a rocket and accelerates very well but has low cruise speeds and top end is only 75mph at 5200-5300. The 28's get on plane slower but not bad, cruise speeds much better 46mph at 3000 rpms and a top end of 75-77(on GPS) at 5000 to 5100 rpms. I must be experiencing allot of prop slip, if you folks are seeing much better top end with similar rpm's. Any suggestions, maybe the 27 Hydro's would work fine. I could lose a little out of the hole if I could gain on top.Maybe I should be looking at extension box's???

I would be very surprized if you have a positive experiance with Hydromotive on a Donzi. Not enough blade surface pushing a large deep V haul. They did nothing for my 33 ZX. Close to same top end but could not....and I mean NOT get out of the hole. I even had to run up river against the current to even get the 29 Labbed Hydromotives on plane. And it was blowing out all the way.

Does it matter whether you are going upstream or downstream in regards to planing? Seems like it would only matter on a GPS!

Actually, the day I was out the Ohio river was running 3-4mph. A rather good clip. If you power up heading down river (with the flow) versus up river it makes a big difference. You will see people pulling skiers starting up river for this reason.
