Proud owner of the only 30DW ever built. Bought with no power, for now I plan on building a set of 300xs's for it. Should be a really fun boat!

DAYUM Don!!!!

You werent kidding, nice ride!!!! Leaving the canopy on it, or pleasure boat?

bulletbob 06-11-2012 08:03 AM

I wish I had known it was you buying the boat. You and your wife would have been welcome to do the poker run with me and made a weekend of it. I'm glad you ended up with it Don. It was nice to finally meet you in Jacksonville. Brian had offered to take my Talon in trade and it was just going to be to costly for me to get the DW the way I wanted it. I know you will do it justice. I'm looking forward to seeing it on the water. Congrats again.

Hi Bob-

We actually had friends that were doing the run and invited us along. But, I needed to get back on Sunday so we were not able to join in the fun. We did see the lake, it looked amazing and we will be going to next years run.

Thanks
Don

Sparky said he enjoyed talking to you and that you knew Gary well. You have a great piece of history there. I know after seeing your motion you will do it justice and boy will you need the A/C. Look forward to seeing it on the water.

Sparky was a great help in purchasing the boat. He pulled the motors, and made sure the boat was ready for the long haul back to Florida. We owe him a few beers!

Congratulations Don and Amanda. I'm looking forward to seeing you in your new ride a bit later this year. Nice.

Thanks Bob! Should be a fun year. I know of at least 4 new cat outboards that will be joining us!

sonicss42 06-11-2012 09:48 PM

Know you'll do a great job getting it together. Only problem for us is, with the canopy it will be hard to see your wife in the pics.

Don,

Big Congrats to you. I'm very excited to see how fast she will run with twin 300XS. If in your budget, see if you can have the lowers done by Wilson Custom Marine.

Please keep us posted with more pics.

Awesome lookin' cat !

Hi Bill-

There are 2 Berry Cuda boats:

This one is the 30 Doug Wright
The one racing still is the 32 Doug Wright.

Hope this helps.

Don, I luv watching builds, please show pics of the engines coming in crates, and the opening and craning onto the transom. Videos would be great as well.

This is gonna be one awesome build!

Will you be using lab finished props or stock props from Merc?

Hi Noli-

First off the engines are not brand new, so this build will be a little different than what you are expecting. A good friend of mine is Shaun Torrente and he and I are looking to do some different things with these engines, I cant tell you yet, but it should be fun. And for a base line I will be running a set of 4 blade merc cleavers, but after the first run I will be switching to something other than merc props.

Thanks
Don

Me too. Currentely the diesel combination does not offer the RPM range/gearing needed to generate the correct prop speed for a high speed cat. It has worked out great for a CC.

Aqua Banshee 06-20-2012 02:29 PM

15" Mids!!! Cool boat

STR engines are awesome!

STR should give you better low end/mid torque and with the remapped ECU, should give you a higher RPM range.

Cool. Please post pics of the rigging!

say no more about the props :)

How do I know all of this? I dunno  :cool-smiley-011:

You should design a gear box that would fit between the mid and lower. The mid section could be shortened to make space

I agree, but that takes alot of time and resources that we currently do not have. It would have to be a 2 speed transmission to get the RPM we are looking for on top end while still being able to get the boat on plane.

Don, anything to report on the engines front?

They are in many pieces right now and being shipped to different parts of the country. Will have the pieces back in 3 weeks to being assembly. In the mean time I will turn the efforts to the cockpit and start rigging the rear view camera, and new gps and the rest of the goodies.

noli 06-30-2012 08:24 PM

I luv seeing engines in pieces, so if you have pics wouldn't mind seeing them :)

also what parts go to which specialist...in the country?

Spent the day painting the windshield area black to give it a more modern look. Also painted the underside of the sponsons orange because my wife likes the way it looks.
