Number six on a single vee - Pros and cons?

cougar - was that a custom piece or an off the shelf stellings? I like konrads package with the trans in the box so this might save the swap. I'm not excited about moving the tank, custom boxes, etc. but not real excited about being stranded with a busted bravo either...
Any idea on the weight of the drive? Just curious as the transom wasn't originally built for the added weight and reinforcing it is probably needed.

Water Ski Racing boats use them sometimes too. I read an article about it years ago about how the #6 made the wake flatter so it's easier to ski behind.
The part that is nuts is seeing a 20 footer with a #6 on the back

Install the trolling motors on your trim tabs like the redfish boats have. THat way if you break the drive, you can cruise home. Helps with docking too.
Seriously though. I am fixing to stack 1000HP+ on top of an XR in my Magnum. I'll let you know how it holds up

Or how long

I've seen some of those crazy ass ski boats over at Pfaff's. Those dudes are insane! And then the guys who do the Catalina ski race behind the little boats (20 - 22') are extra nuts!
I though I'd seen something about the NXT tranny fitting into the NXT extension box so that it basically a bravo boat without moving the motor. The only NXT boat I've looked at though is Cooper's Lavey race boat. Then I'd heard that a six box will bolt up to the NXT set up.
I also have some bow lift issues and was wondering if the big heavy six or nxt style drive wouldn't change my balance and actually help the bow lift issue. Masher, how did your and JC's boats run compared to "Strictly Business" with the IMCO on it?

Jeff, Albert "MiamiBoyz" ran at least 1000 hp through an XR in his three man race set up Pantera and never had a drive failure. The boat was super light (4,500# or less) and he changed top gears every year, as I recall. Go for it dude!

I am not worried about the drive handling the power, I am worried about the weight of the boat making it work to hard.
We will see. can afford a hell of a lot of gears for the price of a drive upgrade.
Mine has brand new gears in it right now, so I'll be all reight for a while.

About ten plus years ago when they started the project for the ultimate single engine. ................They needed the box to house the tranny. They drew the plans up for exactly what the needed. Then I believe they contracted BAM to build it. And Bam contracted it out to Stelling's. From there you have the start of the Stellings Fabricated extension box which Stellings now makes as a Cast extension box.
So yes it's now a standard off the shelf box

But you may have to get your saw zaw out and open up the inside.

But that's how the box started life.

Louies boat always ran great and never had an issue with the bravo. They also are a very experienced race team and KNOW what they are doing. They loved it... If i were looking for a 32, I wouldnt hesitate to buy that boat in a heart beat.... with or without power, de-tune it and run about 700hp thru it and have a upper 90s boat. It is a pure hot rod and a huge head turner. I wont sell mine... just way too much fun!
JC had a bravo on his and it ran killer but broke every time out with about 1000hp in it.... then he put the 6 on it.
I think Louie will even tell you he was a little lucky he never had an drive issues. All it takes is one miss on a hole or one bad re-entry and pop! As JC will tell you once you start taking apart a bravo it really is never the same as it was... his blew up every time.
The bravo on our boats is ideal for up to about 700hp.... boats are light and sleek.... soon as you add a few hundy more hp I would be worried.
Bow lift on our boats is very tricky.... lots of prop testing and you will needs a very custom prop for best performance.
Ours are a fussy boat. Full tank vs Half tank vs 1/4 tank of fuel vs 4 people on board vs 2 people on board vs one person on board are 6 different boats.... major difference with the weight difference. My set up will be based on a half tank of fuel and two people.
