I just did this for my first time.
Just do it as one - I had my brother stand on the other side and hold one side while I held the other. They are light with 2 people. Then all you have to worry about is the shift linkage.
You won't lose any lube that way (well a LITTLE bit), but the bellhousing has a petcock in it that won't drain your resevoir. Then when you have to put them back on you can just line up the shift linkage, lube the spline, reassemble, clamp down the 6 bolts and be done.
I thought it was going to be a massive affair but it wasn't.

I don't know yet. Every time I start thinking about a weekend I'm going to start, I come up with a reason to use the boat and not want it torn apart. 
Since there's a possibility the drive(s) will be off for more than a day, I need to fab up a block or stand to bring them home.
As great as the Formula Silent Thunder platform is, I don't want to be under there trying to muscle 110lbs in an awkward position.
