Default Heat Lamp

Just wondering if anyone uses the Merc. heat lamp when removing bearing races when rebuilding an out drive?Does it really make it much easier and how about using a heat gun.I was thinking the steel race would expand faster then the aluminum and make it harder to remove?Any thoughts

Thanks Nordic95

I have used M.A.P. gas to warm up drive cases with success. Most times, you dont need to. However, you need all the help you can get, when getting a broken lower vertical shaft bearing out of a case.
