Default My turn...chunked a skeg

This is a first for me. I never felt a thing. No other damage detected.

I would assume there would be no need to disassemble for this repair. Any special information I should tell the welder? Any tricks to keeping the temps down while welding etc? Material nuances?

Oh I polished it. It is still smooth but that is what the saltwater does to the finish. I salt-away and wash it after every use.

Been there done that with no issues. Your break looks far enough from the case ... no worries
