How bad was the prop damaged??? At the RPM you were at the torque is at its peak, so if upon striking something and the prop momentarily locked up, it would break some gears and possibly break the driveshaft.

I broke an upper gear tooth off which locked the drive for a split second and it twisted the input shaft 90 degrees. I was at 3500 rpm which is my peak torque.

Not a fun thing that's for sure. At least you got yours wet. more month for me
