I know its one piece. Are you saying they do not make a upper to go with there -3 lower? Like the SC extreme they make an upper to mate to there -3 lower. I will have to call them in the morning. Thanks Don The SCX upper was originally intended to be used with the SCX lower, which at this time only comes in a -2 configuration. IF you want it lower than that, you have to use the SCX spacers which come in lengths up to +3. Because of the enlarged gears in the SCX lower, it is proving to not be very efficient except when used as a surfacing drive. IMCO wisely decided to make the SCX upper compatible with their existing SC lower sections. The only thing you need, is to put a conversion down shaft into the lower. They make these conversion shafts in standard thru +3 lengths. So.. not only is there no -1 mid body in the SCX to accomidate the clearances needed for a prop when using the -3 lower, there is also no -1 conversion shaft made. Hope this helps, Chris |
I hope they make a case and componets to accommodate the -3 or make a -3 SCX complete. In the near future. I can not go deeper than i am now, in fact would love to go hgher.
Thanks, Don Glen Harbor Marina |
Don,
You should probably call IMCO in California and ask them about a shorter SCX... but my understanding is that they are not persuing that at this time. From talking to them today...They are looking into making the SCX lower more hydrodynamic by using somewhat smaller gears in the lower and making the lower faster. For now we will just have to settle with the SC lower if we want speed, or the SCX lower if we want reliability. IMCO claims that they have yet to see a broken set of SCX gears. Apparently there were some shifting issues with the first release units due to breaking shift cams, but that has been fixed with a new billett piece. On your boat.. there is always the possibility of raising the motor some. I have heard that you can raise it an inch without re-cutting the transom. Hope this helps, Chris |
Don cant raise his drive anymore. He just reglassed the hole in the transom and raised his ITS box to 1/4" from the swim platform and raised the engine to match. He already has a -3" lower.
I forget how much you raised it Don, must of been at least 2.5-3" right? |
