The engine is making it's max torque around those numbers and the boat is still pretty wet , which causes a lot of drag. Those two factors add up to broken drives. Higher rpm's and an aired out boat can actually be much easier on the drive.

I don't think I would have smelled that as fast as you were going. Anyone ever see a 40' OL plane on one motor/drive? I have!

Well I got all the parts in to fix my drive....but....the ITS shaft and u-joint assy I ordered from merc is differant than the one that I took out. The Merc# I received is 865425T02. As you can see in the photos the u-joints are smaller and the old one is alot more beefer. Any suggestions and the correct part#. I have looked thru Merc Net and that is the only # I can find. This is my first ITS drive I've worked on.....

Maybe it's a new design, less spinning weight mass = less harmonics..may be the fixx for the broken drive issue's they are having...

If it were me and all of you are having all the same issues at all the same Rpm's sounds like merc has a major problem on their hands..i would gang up on merc and say pay up !!

That looks like the newer one with the sealed
u-joints.

When I junked my upper out, the replacement had
that style of u-joints in it....it should work ok for you.
