Default Bravo XR Shifting Issue....Any Ideas?

I have 2005 twin Bravo XR's with 525's on a 35 foot Formula Fastec. The port side drive when shifted into forward delays about 5 seconds before actually going into gear. It has been getting progressively worse. I adjusted the brass nut on the shift cable mounted on the engine forward and backward with no improvement. I noticed from the day I purchased the boat, "used", the port side shift mechanism was a little odd. Instead of the normal "clunk" you hear when shift into gear, the port side shifter is increadibly smooth and alwasy went into gear very quietly, which is not normal.

I have been told that Mercruiser had cone clutch issues in the
'05 uppers on their drives. Had a friend who bought a new '05 boat with Bravos X's that had both cone clutches replaced under warranty at about 30 hours.

Any opinions about what this could be or possible Mercruiser issues that would cause this situation would be greatly appreciated.
