Just call waconda (John P) at the Bravo Shop. He's a standup guy and will give you the true scoop on his drives.

dennis r 02-05-2011 04:43 AM

26 what went out of it after 3 years

endeavor1 02-06-2011 11:31 AM

THEJOKER 02-06-2011 11:35 AM

We were the 1st and only to put on a SVL Phantom race boat w/ 650 hp. Only problem was a shift linkage problem but after that flawless.

Agreed, I would not hesitate to buy any products from John @ The Bravo Shop!

waconda 02-10-2011 10:05 PM

Stop by booth 3141 at the Miami boat show and check them out.

dennis r 02-14-2011 09:11 PM

Must be not to many people running a B-Max out there.

Back4More 02-15-2011 12:06 AM

It's been four years since I bought mine but at the time it was 950 HP and 950 TQ and 14000 lbs. I am running 720 HP through a ProCharged 454 in a 28 Velocity. Never had a problem. I broke my Bravo's by hitting the trim switch.

What about 1200 HP in a 4500 lb. htm sr24 cat

Call John, I know of a couple other HTMs that have similar horsepower with his drive and hold up.

800-792-7286 or PM for his cell

Just consider your lower gears expendable and tear drive down and inspect it OFTEN. My bravo uppers with Max machine worx upgrades have held up real well and they are no where near as strong as your B-maxes but lower gears are a different story and your lowers are really no different using the same exact gears, Smitty

The gears are the same but the cyro process he uses and the oil they use which is their own blend, holds up very well. Alot better than when they used factory merc gears with no help.

The more I talk with John, the Bravo Shop owner, the more impressed I am with the changes he has made to the product.
The man has talent, knows how to use it & is spending the time & money necessary to make a product actually last.
This is not the "old" band-aid solution to Bravo failures everyone is accustom to. In all fairness, it's a totally re-engineered product.

I am a firm believer in Cryoing and treating the lower gears,I spent alot of time and effort testing merc lower gears and various finishes/treatments and oils. I was doing this 5 or 6 years ago before I ever heard of other shops doing it, by using the right oil and cryo/iso finishing lower gears I was able to get them to last about 60 hours instead of 10-15 but they are still weak and expendable, Smitty

Pokher Ace 03-02-2011 11:25 AM

How much for a set of treated lower gears?

lvrepoman 03-11-2011 08:15 PM

Haven't had any first hand experience with the b-max YET, but after spending several hours on the phone with John, and hearing the improvements he's made since he bought the company from Dean- I'll be investing in one. My boat makes just a touch over 1700hp, and while I understand that there's nothing out there that will be indestructible for my application, I'll be exstatic if I can get more than 2 hours of life, which is what I've been getting out of XR's and other builders gear... I've spoken to a lot of builders, and looked at a lot of product. John has his sh*t together!

+1

Dean had piss poor quality control and IMO, gave up the dream. John has since resurectted it and is on top of his game.

1700HP??????? from one engine?????

While I think the BMAX is a great product and John has vastly improved it, 1700hp is still way too much for it.
1700hp is more than SSM6's are rated for.

hopefully he means 2 engines, 1700hp total.

Otherwise he better have some deep pockets for drive replacements.

Jpzaluski 03-19-2011 06:37 AM

Ballpark what do these drives cost?

Panther 03-19-2011 08:48 AM

830 hp/tq on a 10,500lb Apache (dry, no fuel) running mostly the ocean. I've had them them since 2007 and very happy. For the cost, ease of installation and service records I've had, I am very happy.

Rumor has it BMax is working on a solution for the lower units. ;)

txriverrat2001 03-21-2011 10:07 AM

1200HP - over 1000LB FT of Torque

2 Attachment(s)
My neighbors Eliminator with 528 Hemi's... another one I wrench on - it's the old Whipple boat .... twin BMAX's and never an issue .... turning 6 Blade Custom Herrings ..... This thing is like getting shot out of a cannon when you roll off in it ...

Panther 03-21-2011 11:21 AM

Cool setup TX

endeavor1 03-21-2011 11:42 AM

Yea, that Eliminator is a bad b!tch. What kinda speeds will it run?

Rumour has it in the low 150 mark ... I know the owner of it now has been over 135 in it - with 3 or 4 people on board.... It's geared/prop'd for the 75 to 140 run - not for top end. This guy is the former owner of Gone Again - the other one I'm rigging now with the Sterlings.... it's gonna be a bad mofo as well....

That's not what I'm referring too though. Not sure what he wants everyone to know so I'll let him mention something if he's interested.

drpete3 03-22-2011 07:46 AM

Talked to John for 45 min yesterday. Answered all of my questions and educated me quite a bit. Seems like a good guy and seems like he wants to keep his customers happy for a long time.
