Interesting.....It does seem like people like the M8 more than they used to, would be cool to hear more about them.

These were delivered with 2 inch spacers so same height. We will run them and then decide if an adjustment would be appropriate.

The M8R has a hydro-dynamically more efficient lower gear case than the original M8. The mechanics of this conversion are straight forward however the bullet measures about 1/2" larger in diameter and the skeg is thicker. I was hoping someone had done this and could shed some light on handling characteristics. They are rated at 1600 ft lbs vs 1160 for the #6 so hopefully these will stay on the boat Lol. Seriously, the #6's are great units that can for sure handle more than 1160 Ft lbs. We ran them at at almost 140% of their rated capacity and finished races, broken, worn out yes...but finished all except one.

Sounds like your going to be spending a lot of $$ and still have breakage issues. Didn't the MTI's break the hell out of these things too?

I don't know. Where did you hear this? I know this drive is improved since it first came out and Merc puts it behind their 1750, and warranties it behind a 1350.
Thanks for the heads up.

In the middle of a #6 to Weisman upgrade for similar reasons.

I'd consider going 6 to 8's a walk in the park..
