Default Dash mounted warning lights

In another thread I had someone comment that they had the warning buzzers for misc. things like low oil pressure or high water temp but also had some dash mounted lights that would also come on. I'm thinking about adding them but wonder what type of sensor is used to turn the light on? It seemed like overkill but the more I think about it the more I like it. With the wind noise and the stereo I might not hear the buzzer but I might see a light on the dash. Thanks for your help.

Not really. If you have an warning buzzer, you can tie a LED lamp into the same circuit.

I just installed some red warning lights in my dash last year. All you need to do is splice the wires from the warning light into the factory merc alarm buzzers.

Default Warning light

I had a red warning light connected to the buzzer circuit in a boat. Very useful.

For SmartCraft-compatible engines, Mercury sells a 7-way alarm gauge. I have never seen one in real life, so I don’t know if it shows a strong light when an alarm goes off.

Thanks for everyone's comments. Griff, Thanks for the wiring link. It does look easy enough.

Back in the day I had back-up alarms instead of buzzers. I also had a strobe in addition to normal warning lights.

I learned the hard way how hard it was to get my attention when running hard. Open headers, wind noise and concentrating on driving all compete for your attention.

Since we're having this discussion, is there a list of the circumstances where the stock MEFI-1 would actually sound the buzzer (502 Mag MPIs)?
