Re: Excalibur questions...
Matt,
I have the engines done, and currently doing some work on the outdrives, (some how I got a small crack on one of the lowers next to the prop), so the restoration continues, but there definently is light at the end of the tunnel. I will be more than happy to go to some poker runs although I may need to add a giant out board, or an airboat fan to my 454's to keep up with you, :evilb: , |
Re: Excalibur questions...

Re: Excalibur questions...
Hey Matt, do you know Fred Hall personally? If so have you spoken to him lately. I was in the boat crash with him in 1980. We hit a seawall almost head on at 60 MPH in a 27' Excalibur in Fort Lauderdale. The boat broke into three pieces and stayed afloat for many hours after the impact. It was a horrific crash and Fred took on the most damage. Fred saved our lives by pulling the wheel back to the left at the last second from the idiot who was driving. If we had taken a direct hit on the center of the bow it would have killed us all. I spent 2 months in full traction in Mercy hospital in miami, and recovered completely. I cannot say the same for Fred, I am sure he still feels remnants of the crash today. Grant Allen.

I got a hold of a friend of Freds today by email. He has requested information on my boat, which he used to own, and would like to get on this site. I am sending him all the information on how to do so. The last time I saw Fred was over 5 years ago in Sarasota. |

Question for Don Abel, Welcome aboard Don. You guys built me a new Black 40 Hawk just as Bill Farmer was selling company to Wellcraft, Feb. 1984 I was wondering how many 40 Hawks did you guys build at Bill Farmers plant and how many 40 Hawks at the Wellcraft plant. Also some of the Farmer built 40 Hawks had notched transoms and some say they had a 40 Hawk from Farmer without the notch. Any idea way. ? Thanks for any information. Jon

Re: Excalibur questions...
What's the deal with this site's day and time keeper. We should try to get it off London time. :D

Re: Excalibur questions...
My clock is fine, you might check your settings.
Don Abel, do you have an email address? I would love to send you some pictures of your old boat. I am sending some to Fred also. You wouldnt recognize it at all. If any of you dont know, i have a section in my "boating pictures" below of a lot of Excaliburs. If you have any that you would like to see there, send them to me. [email protected] This could be used as a temporary place to show all of the boats that we can find. |

Re: Excalibur questions...
there is no I D IN SERIAL # to denote kevlar==to id K look at the hull side in a stoage area --under dash---in engine room- etc----instead of the usual clearish white glass---you will see a defenite yellow material -----KEVLAR don

Re: Excalibur questions...
Hi Don, Few more questions if you don't mind. Easter weekend back in 1983 you, Bill Farmer and a whole fleet of 40 Hawks & one 42 Eagle with Diesel power showed up at Faro Blanco Marine & Resort in the Fla. Keys. One of those 40 Hawks was a Blue & White, Twin Turbo, Tom Fileman built Flagship Marine Power. Boat had # 3 Speedmasters and I think his last name was Steakley, he was Chev. dealer from Texas. Do you remember that Hawk and any idea if its still around. Also was the hull Kevlar ? Sure is great having you on the thread. Hope you are enjoying it as much as we are. Jon

Re: Excalibur questions...
Steakley is the correct name. Although the Steakley Chevrolet dealership near my house in Dallas has closed. I will scan some old pictures today of some more 40's from back in the day. I probably have that one.

Re: Excalibur questions...
Hey thanks Matt, That is a Series III Phaeton with a 24' behind it. We never really towed with those cars we just set it up and pictured it like that. NOW, listen to this. I have struck pay dirt. I just drove 900 miles today round trip to hilton head, s.c. and picked up piles of old Excalibur boat pictures and my fathers ad's. I have pictures of custom teak deck one of a kind 27's and 31's, the like you've never seen.
Question, should I take the pic's to Kinko's and have them scanned and put on a disc? And what size is the max this site will take? And how do I down load more than three shots? Tell me how to do it Matt, Thanks, Grant. |

Re: Excalibur questions...
If you scan a picture in .jpeg form they need to be 1024x768 pixels. If you have a hard time, email them to me and I will be glad to fix them and post them. I will also put them in my Excalibur section of Boat Pictures.

Re: Excalibur questions...
Thank s Matt. That's my father and I back in 1979 shooting pics for an ad titled " EXCALIBUR OVERKILL ". We ran it in Gold Coast Mag. and in Palm Beach Mag. and calls came in from all over the world. The 24' with the white deck is my present boat. Note the teak splash rail on the lower sides of my father's boats. He was so "old school" Iam sure he stressed Bill and Don on the details of all of his boats. I wish I knew where they are. They are truly works of art not just the glass, paint and tape of today. Reggie knew what we had. And he is the one who has made the most money off these cutting edge boats.........

Re: Excalibur questions...
What is the story behind the Cigarette like logo?
|
Re: Excalibur questions...
I had nothing to show my "FAS SIGN" buddy with the excal logo. Go figure ! But I had an old Cigarette sticker that Bing Goode (Don Arronow's) right hand man at Cigarette gave me when I was about 17 at the Miami Boat Show around 1975. He scanned it and I made him change the wording from Offshore racing team to offshore powerboats. It says EXCALIBUR right down the middle instead of Cig... Try to put the shot of my K-planes on this site. Mine are the biggest I have ever seen. :D How do I get to your photo album site on this thing?
|
Re: Excalibur questions...
Matt, I see your from dallas. I found my 24' down on Lake conroe. Do you know it? And have you ever heard of Bob Mcgrew?

It looks like your tabs are the 380s K Planes. To get to my alblum, go to the link below, Boating Pictures. You then go to the section titles "Excaliburs."
