Re: Excalibur questions...
Hello Gentlemen!
This is a great site....been folowing it for a while. However, I'm feeling like the left out middle child!! Can someone help me out? I'm especially turning to Mr.Excal and EcaliburHawk40. I I have an '82 27' Excalibur Center Console. (built for outboards) Thats about all I know. I've only seen ONE on this site and I think it was an 84 Wellcraft era. Here's a link to my site. http://photobucket.com/albums/d84/me...rab%20Project/ Looking for Confirmation on year, builder, Model Name, quality, original motor specs, safe speed based on its 6-7' beam. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. MiddleChild...lol |
Re: Excalibur questions...
Can you take a close up of the serial number?
|
Re: Excalibur questions...
I'll try to get to the boat yard soon.
What do you make of the pics? It almost looks like the same hull the used for the inboard model of that vintage. Thanks, Mark |
Re: Excalibur questions...
Great Thread! I once saw a Center Console 24' Excalibur for sale.
It ended up in the 1000 Islands, New York. It had one Bolster seat behind the helm. A teak floor. Classy. |

Re: Excalibur questions...
Hello Shark 2, welcome, Your boat is a Bill Farmer Excalibur. NAP in your serial # stands for North American Products which was the corporate name for Excalibur Marine after Bill and my father desided to change the original name which was Lightning Boats. You might want to email Mr. Don Abel. I am sure if you read the past threads you will understand who he is and I am sure he would give you some good imput as to the history of your boat. His email address is [email protected] Good luck and please post what you find out. Grant Allen, Richmond Va.

Re: Excalibur questions...
PS. I saw your boat about a year ago in these pictures. I was wondering if someone bought it. It was in N.Y. or R. I. wasnt it? Also, are you sure its a 6' 7" beam. My present day 24 is right on 6' 5" and I thought 27s' were at least 7' 5", but Don will know. C-ya.

Re: Excalibur questions...
Does anyone know where I can locate an Excalibur decal that goes on the side of the boat. actually two. or if anyone has a good picture scanned that I can then have some made. Thanks
And Thanks Mr. Excal for the info |
Re: Excalibur questions...
another question is there a book about Bill Farmer/ Excalibur Marine or what ever other names he used to produce boats. I found the one on Don Aronow. I thought I found one on Bill but I had to go and I forgot to copy the site I found it at. Let me know.

And Thanks Mr. Excal for the info http://www.stickerdudedesigns.com/ The cool script with the sword passing thru the name. They copied the ones off my boat when it was stored near their shop. The finished up the design, but I haven't had them printed out yet, because, my boat isn't ready for the new stickers. If they don't know what you are talking about tell them they have the file saved under "boat stuff" or something. |

Actually, I took these pics myself just last summer and fall. Don't know what pics you saw, but I bought it from a Broker who brought it up from FLA. You may have seen one of his ads. I've got in near Cape Cod now. |

Actually, Im not Positive about the beam. One of the problems is that its got double walled sides. So my initial measurment of 6-6 1/2' is the inside deck space. The overall Beam from outer skin to outer skin, Port to sarboard very well could be 7....7.5 could be a stretch. Thats my ONLY complaint about the boat so far. Most of the time I'll be running from Cape Cod to the Vineyard to Newport, however, Fishing out in big water could be a challenge. All I can visualize is a 27' foot long popcile stick sitting at idle and getting thrashed around....whats your expectation of this hull at idle in the chop?? |
Re: Excalibur questions...
Shark 2 , amazingly my 24' X 6'5" sits nicely in moderate chop. The only side to side rocking that could be considered uncomfortable is someone else's wake hitting me broadside. That 27 hull is very strong also. I was in a decked outboard version back in 1980 and we hit a seawall in Ft Laud. and broke the boat in three piece's and she stayed together and afloat for almost 4 hours before swamping. Idle fishing in 1 to 3 foot rips should not be too bad.

I own a 32' executioner (1981) it was built in late 1980, one of Reggie's creations, it was one of the powerboat test boats equipped with twin turbo 454's and ssm #2's. I've since re-powered with a pair of 900sc's and ssm 3a's. the boat is fast even by todays' standards. They still are great boats and quite timeless as far as sex appeal is concerned!!! |
Re: Excalibur questions...
What history does anyone have about the 38'. My uncle had one in the mid-eighties and I loved it. It was Black with triple gold stripes "Exotic Rascal" I think it went to Texas as a trade for a 50' Profil Hawk.

What are you looking for for the hull? Is it an Bill Farmer Excalibur or a Wellcraft Excalibur?

I am new to this sight but really love all the info I get off of here. I have an 81 27 flatdeck with a supercharged 454. Stainless marine exhaust and trs drive. I do low 70's but have cable steerin so it gets real wild. I have got new hydrallic steerin for it but just have to find the time to install it. But I just wanna say thanks to everyone for all the great info and history of these boats. I think its cool to know all we can about the history. Thanks again, Shawn.

Out of curiousity, what is the story with the Excalibur 31':
What was the first year that it was produced? How did Chris Craft become involved? Did they sell them as Chris Crafts and Excaliburs at the same time? When was the last year of production? Any rough production figures? Did they come with single (port/starboard) bolster seats or side by side/double bolster seats like the Fountains? How did Reggie Fountain wind up using their hull for his first offshore boats? Any pics to post? There is a red and white 79/80 Excalibur 31 in my area (once owned by a large local car dealer) and a dark blue and white EX 31 in MD off of 301 near Kent Island/Piney Narrows at "Chesapeake Outdoors"...not sure if that one is for sale or not? Both boats have peaked my curiousity/interest. I love their shape/style. THANKS for all your time, help and info. |

Looks like I may be the owner of one of these things in the next few days. Don't know much about them, Just wanted to know if it was worth the trouble to deal with. The hull might as well be completely stripped. Looks like someone started a refirb and just stopped. It has some of the lower unit parts in the bilge and is on a trailer. Just thought I would ask the question, "What would do if it were yours?" I have some photos along with other things if interested.@ http://carsinmyyard.shutterfly.com/
Thanks |
That is a very fun hull. If it were mine, I would rebuild it with the intent of have a no BS, no frills, hot rod. A 500HP engine would be great.
Or, you could pull it down to me, I will rebuild it and send you pictures when I am done and having fun with it! |

Question for 'older boater'
I have the 1980 24 that used to belong to MrExcal. Its possible that you were involved in its build. I find it strange and a little worrying that there is not a complete bulkhead in the boat. Have you any idea why it might have been built like this? |
