Dave, excellent summary, but I think you assumed they de-waxed before initial sanding.

Removing the masking and re-masking is important..... a hard leson learned. That primed paper sure can hide alot of dust!

yep . . . its one of those subtle details that is often over looked because some consider it an extra step. its also one of those things that pays of big time in a better final result.

Dave, after you wet sand the sealer when you say wipe it down, do you mean with wax and grease remover again or just wash and let dry?

If you are going to the time to paint a boat the right way, Don't go cheap on the base and clear. All I spray race boats with is PPG. 2021 clear and DBC base. Skikkens also makes good paint system. The cheaper paints are good for roundy round cars. Follow glassdave steps and you will be alright.

actually its not wet sanding the sealer but rather just a light going over to knock out any dust nibs that have settled in it. i use a spray bottle with DX-330 instead of water because it helps to the keep the paper from cloging, just go lightly over the surface . if the sealer came out clean you can go right to paint. but it harldey ever does when doing big jobs like this out side of a booth. there are lots of little tricks to help along the way and its great we have a place like this on the forum to toss the ideas around. i been in the biz longer than i care to admit and i am always picking up new stuff here (an i thought i knew everything there was to know )
